well one of the big dogs would be just 4 first rounders
Offer Sheet (AAV) Compensation
$1,339,575 or below None
Over $1,339,575 to $2,029,59 3rd
Over $2,029,59 to $4,059,322 2nd
Over $4,059,322 to $6,088,980 1st, 3rd
Over $6,088,980 to $8,118,641 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Over $8,118,641 to $10,148,302 (2) 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Over $10,148,302 (4) 1st picks - jimbro83
Is Point or Marner worth 10.2?
That slightly lower Tier is a lot more attractive. The 4 firsts is like payment for a generational player. |

But the offer sheet path is dead right? Since they are missing their own 2nd rounder. Or did I miss something about that (honestly asking). - JRR1285
Since Marner and point would be the max, they can talk to them. They just can't give anything where a 2nd or 3rd would be part of the comp |

I think the only chance of getting Tampa or Toronto not to match is to put the contract out of sight, like 12 mil |

FWIW I think Marner is borderline generational. I may be drinking the koolaid, but i really think he's elite. I could make an argument he's better than Panarin and he definitely is much younger.
The 4 firsts would be a bit tough to swallow, but with as much as organizational depth we are building, if you wouldn't do that now, then in theory you'd never do it. |

Me too. But if EK is favoring the Rangers and they need to give him 11+ per year against the cap that is going to give me some (a lot) of pause. If the cap were over 100mil I'd be like:
 - JRR1285
I can’t think of a better player to lead this new era into dominance. Thats 90% of why i even want the guy
I’m so excited about the future and I’m sure it shows on this blog they lost me for two years but I’m back |

How are they gonna match even at 10-11? Aren't they in cap hell?
Is anyone available in the range that would cost the first and third. That is an interesting tier. |

We can't offer that tier though. |

I think they'd match and move other pieces to get themselves under the cap and then just be pissed off
I'd give Marner a 7 year 84 million offer sheet though (if we don't get Panarin)
he's worth 4 first rounders IMO |

Yeah, because of the fox deal we can't use the 2nd or 3rd because in theory we don't know what that pick will be. |

The offer sheet thing is beyond my comprehension abilities haha I just know it never happens so I completely dismiss the idea |

We agree there. BUT, I will be pulling for him if he is still here. I truly believe we are looking at a rebound season from him if he is here. Then maybe you move him at the deadline. Even if they are in a PO position. Unless he is playing out of his mind, then you just ride him. - JRR1285
Trade him to BOS and retain 2 million |

I'm saying it now. Lundkvist is our EK but younger and a hell of a lot cheaper. - mdw7413

it's either a 2nd or 3rd depending on number of games Fox plays, so both picks are out of play right now
Rangers could just say, hey, we'll make it a 2nd, if they do one of those 1st and 3rd offer sheets |

Remember when every single person on here told me I was exaggerating when it came to Shattenkirk? His health, his age and his defensive play concern me. All 3 of those are valid arguements. We don’t have 5 defensive stalewarts back there to cover up his mistakes, we have 3 guys (Lindgren Hajek Fox) that haven’t even played a full season, Staal, Shattenkirk who’s a train wreck, ADA who I think is our best D man at the moment, and Skjei who hasn’t shown on a consistent basis he can be a top 4 guy. Add a guy into that mix who is horrible 5 on 5 and we’re in for a miserable season. - nyrangers9479
Skjei is playing top 4 minutes for Team USA right now. He is looking good too. They just need to find him the right partner. Smith was signed to that UFA contract because they thought HE was the guy. Clearly, Smith is not.
Rangers need to get Skjei a partner like Leetch had Beukeboom. We find THAT guy and Skjei will be solid! |

That's why it surprised me that Gorton would agree to that condition of the deal. He had to know about that stipulation with the offer sheets. It tells me that they have no intention of targeting anyone with an offer sheet who would fall into that category. |

when you have 7 first round picks in a 3 year period, you know, it's the kind of risk you can take
and lets face it too, Adam Fox, is first rounder quality |

I legit don't think that would be an issue. There is no way we'd let anyone get to RFA that would be elite like Marner. Even then, lets say we lost (and I won't name names to piss off the board) an elite RFA, we would just get all the 1sts back we lost for Marner and could just deal again for help.
If Kakko/Hughes lives up to billing, I don't think there is any way that off their ELC we don't sign them to a 8 yr contract. You don't bridge those guys. |
