Panarin is a very young 27, he's only been in the NHL for 4 years, he has no NHL wear and tear
we have young Russians coming in, perfect for him to play with.
It's absurd not to want him. - jimbro83
He's got a lot of skill though... |

WHY DONT YOU LIKE PANARIN - jimbro83
I would have loved to have Panarin 3 yrs ago when we were making a run for a Cup but not now. This team is in a rebuild mode and Panarin will not help us in that aspect. He will not put us over the top nor is he the missing piece. What he will do is enable us to win maybe 5 or 6 more game this year and all that does is hurt our draft position for next year. Yes he is an elite scorer now but like I said in 3 or 4 yrs when we are ready to compete how will he be? Most hockey players lose a step once they age past 30. Do you want to chance a 10 to 11 million dollar cap hit for that? Why not wait 3-4 yrs and then sign a 27 yo player who is like Panarin but will be able to compete for a Cup?

Listen I hope you guys suck forever, but you don't pass on talent like Panarin. Especially talent that doesn't miss any games. You have a bevy of young Russian prospects that you want to feel comfortable in NYC and be well-groomed by some vets and Panarin will do both of those things. Panarin is a superstar. |

If not Panarin this year...I can see your point, but is anyone going to be available as a UFA next year who comes close to his skill level? I think waiting 2/3 years to sign a high end UFA is too long, but if someone is out there after this upcoming season, I have no problem waiting and seeing how kids do, and then deciding to go for it. |

Dude, I hate to break it to you, but we are only in rebuild mode for another 7 weeks. Once we draft Kakko and whoever else, then pick up Panarin on July 1, we are in learn to win mode!!!! I don't see any reason why we can't hope to be in a fight for a playoff spot, if not even 3rd in the division next season.
I know it's no guarantee, that's why I chose the word "hope."
But, I'd put our chances as closer to that than top draft pick. |

I swear to god people think Panarin is like 60 or something. He's (frank)ing 27 and missed like 5 games in 4 full seasons. |

No thank you. I dont want Karlsson. He will be 29 yo. Has an injury history and will want 10 million plus for 7 yrs. Pass. Pass on Panarin too. They will not help us win a Cup now or push us over the top. In 2 to 4 yrs when we are ready to compete for the playoffs again they will be on the other side of thirty. Hockey players seem to age pretty quickly now once they past the 30 mark. We have to stop falling in love with these big free agents for just a few years. We are a rebuilding team and dont need a big free agent signing now. Lets wait 2,3 or 4 yrs and sign the next big free agent who will be 27 then. - Brukie

No reason to hate on someone wanting to wait on singing UFAs this year. Its only been 1 full year since beginning of rebuild. I want Panarin too, but there are benefits to waiting another season to go all in as well. |

Not really. The only comparable in a year would be RNH if he made it to free agency.

it's gonna take a 7 year deal to get Panarin
he's a young 27, we usually sign big time UFA's at age 31, guys who already have major wear and tear
we actually signed Gaborik at age 27, he had two 40 goal seasons with the Rangers and we turned him into Brassard/Zib
don't overthink this one
we don't wanna miss out on Panarin, because I'll be honest with you, they are spending the money in another spot of they miss out |

Once they won the two pick, the rebuild ended. You get 2 (Kk or Hughes) and 20, with what they added already...oh the time is now here. This was never going to be 5-6 rebuild either. Maybe it’s a year early, but like I said that two pick literally changed everything. |
