One knock on Kakko is that he doesn't have the speed to make enough entries into the offensive zone carrying the puck, and that he dumps it in too much. Whether or not it's true is above my pay grade. He looked fast enough on that breakaway goal.

He, like Hughes will improve all aspects of their games and will be playing with top 3 line mates

I am completely dismissing any criticism of Kakko's skating ability after actually watching him play a few games

this kid could do it all, I don't understand where that stuff even comes from

Totally agree and very good in the corners. His game will translate very nicely. I am totally stoked to get either guy.

Henrik Lundqvist to @sportbladet "After WU18's I was sure Hughes would go as number one, but now with the arrival of Kakko [on the big stage] I am not so sure anymore".

The one bright spot is that there is no way the Rangers go off the board.

yeah, no chance

could they trade it if overwhelmed by a trade offer?

every ever so slight chance

I'd say like 1% chance

Rangers will get a great player here. I am cool with either. Both have certain aspects of their game that we desperately need.
Anything can happen, but I just don’t see how the Devils go Kakko. Hughes has been the guy since he’s 16. And if the Devils do go Kakko, we will get our #1 Center we’ve wanted for a long, long time. Maybe he won’t be the #1 next season, but he will be eventually and he’ll be the centerpiece for years to come.
And if the Devils do take Hughes, which I think they will, they’ll have some 1-2 punch down the middle for a long time. Centers, elite centers, are harder to come by then wingers which is why I think they take Hughes and we get Kakko.

Either way, I’m excited

no goddmamn way

I think if anything is possible it would be moving back in the top 10 as part of a large package

chances are so remote though, I'd bet my home that Rangers are sticking at 2

If I had either pick I would take Kakko. Hughes' size scares me, especially with some of the meatheads, like Wilson, Clutterbuck, and Gudas that are in our division.

We have all heard the talk that Hughes has been lighting it up playing against other kids, while Kakko has been playing against men, and I thing the WC's is showing that to be true, after 2 games Kakko has 5 goals (2 ENGs), Hughes has 1 assist.

I'm sure Hughes will develop into a big time star, but Kakko is already there. It really doesn't matter, since Jersey will be making the decision for us.

I think Jersey HAS to take Hughes, because of the relationship he already has with Taylor Hall. Imagine if they take Kakko, and we get Hughes, then Hall decides to walk next year, and signs with us. The devils CANNOT allow that to happen

Now see look at that, and now tell me you wouldn’t want Karlsson feeding that group of forwards for seven straight seasons? He could seriously blow past his previous numbers
- Slimtj100

No thank you. I dont want Karlsson. He will be 29 yo. Has an injury history and will want 10 million plus for 7 yrs. Pass. Pass on Panarin too. They will not help us win a Cup now or push us over the top. In 2 to 4 yrs when we are ready to compete for the playoffs again they will be on the other side of thirty. Hockey players seem to age pretty quickly now once they past the 30 mark. We have to stop falling in love with these big free agents for just a few years. We are a rebuilding team and dont need a big free agent signing now. Lets wait 2,3 or 4 yrs and sign the next big free agent who will be 27 then.

Not only that, but it gives an insight where you think the franchise will be. If you do that, you are probably conceding that it will be like 3 years until you are a playoff team again. If that’s the case, no need to sign Panarin either. That’s honestly a type of trade that you could have justified last year, but we aren’t in that position anymore
- 2sticks1puck

We are still in that position. Jeez, what changed?? We are a rebuilding team. When your team has a Staal, Smith and to a lesser extent a Pionk you arent contending for anything. There is no need to sign Karlsson or Panarin. Continue to acquire picks and let them grow. The rebuild letter went out 16 months ago, Rebuild for the future. The future isnt now or the next 2 to 3 years. Well yes the future is technically 2 to 3 years but i mean when we will be ready to compete for a Cup again.

Panarin is a very young 27, he's only been in the NHL for 4 years, he has no NHL wear and tear

we have young Russians coming in, perfect for him to play with.

It's absurd not to want him.
