As several have said, your not giving up on ghost. You are making a hockey trade that you think will improve your club. - daryl stanley
What the other side is actually saying is that's it's not an ideal hockey trade, because Ghost is actually more rare/valuable than RNH.

Also I dont see anyone saying trade Patrick at this time. I see people wanting to improve the fwds and take a little pressure off of him. - daryl stanley
i would trade Patrick and picks before Ghost if the value/return was right. |

Ghost is rare? Sorry don’t see it. He is below average as a defenseman. He is a severely overrated by flyers fans
Oilers laugh if u offer ghost for Hopkins imo |

Mostly because they're not very deep at forward. |

Most people would say RNH is the more valuable player. |

Since 2015-16 season Gostisbehere ranks 14th in total points for defenseman, tied with Morgan Reilly. Ranked 11th in total goals, tied with Kris Letang. I wouldn't say Gostisbehere is "rare", but he's definitely an above average offensive defenseman. |

Yes real good offensive defenseman. No doubt about it. |

I think a lot of teams would want him on their team. As far as the Gostisbehere for RNH trade, I don't see that making sense for the Oilers as someone had pointed out. They need RNH for center depth as McDavid and Draisaitl play on the same line. |

Me I want my dman to be better defensively as that’s what will get further along come the playoffs imo.
If points are more important than he is your guy. All a matter of opinion I suppose. I just don’t view him as a core piece |

Well yeah, you want a mix of defenseman. Some that can move the puck and provide offense, some that are physical and poke check, hit , etc. |

Nobody said trade Patrick, everyone is saying push him back in the line up. It won’t hurt him but it doesn’t make sense if you haven’t found a nice compliment for him on the wing. |

Like you said previously, this is what hurt Coots (lack of consistent, skilled line-mates). He did not break out beyond 39 points until year 7. He spend 4 years at ~38 PTS/YR and there were lots of people saying he was a bust and all the offensive ability he showed in Juniors didn't translate. The good part for Coots was that even in his first 2 years he showed he could play against the top lines in the NHL. Patrick doesn't have the defensive skill Coots came in to the league with, but he does have a ton of offensive upside that he will grow into, like you said, with the right line-mates.

I dont see San Jose complaining with Burns and Karlsson. there isn't a formula to win, what works for one team may not work for another. The easiest way to say it is to have a balance of offensive and defensive oriented dmen. combos like Pronger and Carle, Keith and Seabrook, Doughty and Johnson, OEL and Yandle, etc etc. However, these are the tippy top, a guy like Ghost matched up with a defensive responsible guy like Provorov would do wonders for both. Thats why Ghost and Provy had the year they had, they play off each other really well, I wish they weren't broken up so early last year but what can ya do.
Conversely though, I think Sanheim and Myers would be a really good second pairing. Both great skaters, both with a flair of offensive acumen, but also two dmen who can correct mistakes on the back end just strictly due to their size and skating ability. You have to tinker obviously, but in the end, Ghost is not a player you get rid of at this time and place. |
