The Sharks have a declining ancient core, and quite frankly, have been gifted 2 game 7s to get this far. They'll be a year older and maybe 3 or 4 players lighter, without much good youth.

I guess Hertl ,Meier, Couture, LaBanc aren't that good in your Vegas colored glasses.

30 year old logan couture makes your list of good youth?!?!?!?

Their power play finished 3rd in the NHL this past season and 4th best last season while being #1 this current postseason as well as last postseason.

Clearly unsustainable.

Facts have no place when debating James Tanner.

The Bruins PP is awesome. They'll be in trouble if it dries up, but at this point the powerplay not producing would be the anomoly, not vice versa.

My take would be Carolina. I didn't think they were for real and they proved me wrong for two rounds, but now we're seeing them hit a wall with the Bruins. That goaltending duo has no business playing as well as they have been. I can't see it lasting.
- mgriffen

They would be my guess as well. I mean, that team missed the playoffs 10 years in a row and they were going nowhere fast as an organization. Yeah, maybe an up and coming team. But I could see them crashing back to earth real quick.

Three hockey bloggers and not one chooses the easy answer of Carolina?

Very likely they don't make it back to the playoffs next year.

- Mahewman

Carolina was my thought too, although the Sharks do also seem like a good pick.

As much as it pains me to say this, I think the Bruins are the most likely to actually make it back next year.

James Tanner is just angry and possibly trying to stir the pot for more hits lol. He definitely doesn't speak for Leafs fans, only himself.

Tampa and the Leafs are good teams to share the division with, but so is Boston.

Not sure why everyone thinks that EK won't re-sign in San Jose. Word on the street is that his wife & kids absolutely love the area & the schools, he loves the California sunshine, as well as not being under a microscope in a hockey town. Plus playing on D with Burns & Vlasic? He's smiling too much out there with his teammates. Also not sure why he'd leave a perennial playoff team...

Jumbo will play again next year at a discount, they'll resign Pavs at a hometown discount.

Nyquist my be the odd man out, but I would put EK's chances at returning at pretty high.

James Tanner

The least likely team to make it back to the final four next year is the Bruins. The Sharks are older, but they have a bunch of guys who appear to be ageless. The Blues and the Canes are up-and-coming teams who should be good for a while. The real problem with the Bruins is they had to have an insane amount of luck to beat the Leafs (i.e the refs made every call in their favor, and they won based on an unsustainable power-play). Also, the Bruins are in the same division as the two best rosters in the NHL - Tampa and Toronto - and this won't ever happen again. Hopefully they are eliminated soon because I can't stand watching them.

Bruins were the second best team in that series, Rask and the power play is the only reason they won. The leafs out chanced them and controlled most of the 5 on 5 play. Outplayed for 6 of 7 is one of the most homer based statements I’ve read on here

Yes, Just because your team got handed a team by Bettman. I would take Couture over any 1 of your players. Don't forget you will need a new goalie soon Fluery isn't a kid anymore.

He forgot to mention that the Sharks were also gifted wins against Vegas in Games 5 and 6. Heck, the Sharks were even gifted a short handed opportunity for the Game 6 win!

Yeah this Vegas fan thinks Hockey was invented in 2017 in some Brothel with Bettman & Foley getting their Krafts off

I hate to break it to you, but I'm born and raised in Toronto, lived here my whole life, and started playing hockey almost 15 years before San Jose had a team.....

So, if that's your retort, guess what....

These Sharks fans think hockey was invented in the 90s, and have no idea about anything NHL before Bettman, like us real fans do.....

Neither goalie is signed next year.

Also, yes, the Carolina Hurricanes are the epitome of a team that has a lot of luck. You betcha.

- BINGO!

The whole point is that whenever it fits his narrative, hack writer James Tanner can't bring up PDO fast enough. But in this instance where you don't even need it to show how obviously lucky the Hurricanes have been the last several weeks, he's talking about the unsustainability of the Bruins because go Leafs. If Carolina wants to stick around, they need to get a real goalie. Eeking into the playoffs and hoping to get lucky (the last few years of The Streak Ken Holland strategy) is no way to build a contender.
