There’s a lot of players who shouldn’t

He’s underpaid and he knows it

Travis Yost just got a raging clue
- TheMussel

I find this impossible to believe.

on another note... since it was clear the Nylander was not in good shape at the of season... and didn't really appear to be getting much better if at all during the last 25 games of the year - why didn' t Leafs send him to the Marlies on a conditioning stint?

He would seem to get more out of getting chased around the AHL than doing laps against teh Norwegians?

Considering how the negotiations went, he probably would have told them to piss up a rope and not reported to Marlies.

Genius

I forgot the real way to win in the NHL.

Have your best players play for another team in a different league and get zero compensation for it.

negotiations of this sort should be a win-win. nylander won and dubas lost.

5x5 is a win-loss in the other direction. doesn't help if you're trying to be a cohesive team.

there was a middle ground that could have been a win-win.

- Tumbleweed

They absolutely should be a win-win but in both situations, Dubas lost.

Nylander got money he didn't earn yet and Matthews got a cap hit worthy of 8 years but he can walk in 5.

Actually genius is saying someone is one of their best players when your second overall and he isn't playing on your team. Must be super important.

Basically, yeah.

At least with Mattews, there was the small, minor threat of an offer sheet. But even if that did happen, they could have matched.

With Nylander, that wasn't going to happen.

Arizona would've offer sheeted him to the max contract allowed and given him a key to whichever city they then move to.

mcdavid, draisalt and eichel's contracts blew up the market.

instead of fighting it like boston did, dubas accepted it.

Now the market has been set by 2 gm's who will never be gm's again.
