Primary assist machine.
Penalty killer extraordinaire.
Many UFA years being given up.

It’s not just my opinion it’s the way it works.

Check the salary’s for centres and then look at wingers.
Ya.
...
If you still gone believe me I’ll list you some goal scorers salaries over “assist” guys. - Santo_44
Just his salary, not comparing. We gave him money for an 8 yr term but he only signed 5 IMO

I'm a righty that plays left wing, I know how it works. Still be better if he was a lefty. - GreatGigInTheSky

Not a goal scorer, not a Centre. Two biggest reasons for inflated contract. This is a known fact.
He SHOULD get between $8.5 and $9.5 but he'll end up between $9.5 and $10.5 a year. |

Creates goals just the same. Could play center, that's on the coach.
UFA years cost money.
And a 5 year deal is stupid because then he could walk like Matthews can walk and like how Tavares walked. |

LEAFS SHOULD LOOK AT KHL D-MAN DARREN DIETZ
We all know, a big issue with the Maple Leafs is their Defense, and more specifically, a Right-Handed shooting one. We also know, they need some more players with some edge in their game. And we also know, they need to be sensitive to the Cap.
Enter Darren Dietz, is an interesting player, the Maple Leafs should be kicking tires on.
Defense -- shoots R
Born Jul 17 1993 -- Medicine Hat, ALTA
Height 6.01 -- Weight 213
Scouting Report: Dietz loves to play on the rush and is excellent in transition. Known as a puck-moving defenceman, he uses elusive speed and a high hockey IQ to find end-to-end opportunities and make life difficult for opposing wingers. He possesses a great first pass and also has a decent shot from the point. He is no slouch in his own end, using his stick to get into passing lanes and his frame to separate opposing players from the puck during battles down low and against the boards.
Here are his stats from this past season. Dietz lead all Defense in scoring, in KHL.
2018-19

Goals are luck , I too like Matthews, not sure he's worth millions more though. How about since AM only signed 5 years he should have taken a couple mill less maybe. Then we wouldn't be in this boat.
Gave him money like he signed for 8 IMO. - Garnie
i hear ya.
if he came in at 10.25 for 5 years, you could probably get pen to paper with marner at 9.25; maybe have nylander for a little less too.
That's the difference difference between re-signing hainsey at league minimum and having the money to bring in a UFA at $4M/year. |

He's under contract for the 2019/2020 season.
But maybe next year, if he's a UFA.

Playing with Tavares upped his point total up by 30.
And I take it you've never seen him try to play centre? 'Cause he can't do it. Same way Kadri couldn't play wing when they tried to move him. Marner is 100% a winger and always will be. |

Tavares also had a career high in goals.
And players as young as Marner tend to have a jump in point totals as a natural progression of skill and understanding of playing in the NHL. Maybe playing with poopbags like Bozak and JVR was just holding him back from his natural potential.
Kadri couldn't play center for a long time. Got sent back down more than once because of it. |

You are trolling here. You know full well being a winger he doesnt/shouldnt get that.
I love Mitchy, I really do. 10.16 @ 8 years...its a slight overpayment, and it frankes them in the 19/20 season till all this cap crap clears off for 20/21 season. |
