No, I meant no contract at all.

He'd be an unsigned RFA.

He'd go play in Sweden or the KHL this past season and the Leafs would have retained his rights but he'd have no cap hit.

That's why the Nylander negotiating was so crucial. But it was a cave in. Imagine if he had sat the whole year and your Matthews. You now know how far the club is prepared to go to keep their cap situation level. Instead you see the club cave in, paying 20 million in 12 months, and you realize you can fleece these guys. Absolutely zero chance Mitch gets anything less than his maximum UFA value just like those two did. Why would he take less?

Comparable to who? No one thought he was anywhere near as good as Pasta except Leafs fans. He could have wanted 12 million a year. What he wanted has nothing to do with it, it's what was he worth. With how bad this has turned out I'm amazed people still stand by Dubas. Awful contract.
