Yes, but because of the loophole it’s 6.9.

Bob Mac? lol The same guy defending the league's god awful suspensions and officiating. He's a league apologist, I gives two poops what he says. They were restricted you guys. These were not UFA's yet the club reacted like they were.
- aminnes

can you post a video to what you are talking about?

based on how you make poop up, its not surprising you dont like Bob Mckenzie

Comparable to who? No one thought he was anywhere near as good as Pasta except Leafs fans. He could have wanted 12 million a year. What he wanted has nothing to do with it, it's what was he worth. With how bad this has turned out I'm amazed people still stand by Dubas. Awful contract.
- aminnes

you can't be serious.

Almost everyone one said a good comparable for Nylander's deal would be Pastrnak. It was everywhere.. Nylander wanted Draisaitl money, Leafs wanted to give him Pastrnak money..

Leafs were offering 5.5, Nylander wanted 8.5. The middle is 7. OH MY GOD THE LEAFS CAVED FIRE DUUUUBASS.
- Steven_Seagull

This is a bit of false logic, I'm afraid.

I don't really care what the initial offers were - I care about what he is worth.

I don't think it's $6.9 million per year.

They didn't structure his contract so that we could get the cap hit up front - why Dubas couldn't accomplish that, I have no idea.

With one month before the deadline, Dubas should have allowed Nylander's agent to talk to other teams. Nobody was going to offer him that much. It would have been a dose of reality.

anyways, Nylander is going to make a lot of fans look stupid

- senstroll

All the sudden he got in shape over the last 3 weeks while he was apparently out of shape for months on end.

30 other GMs will decide that the Leafs keep Zaitsev.
- Atomic Wedgie

Doubtful.

Trades like this happen all the time.

He isn’t some horrendous contract. He’s a legit NHL d.

He’s 1 million overpaid. Phaneuf was traded and was a far far worse contract.

Demers was traded who was in a very similar situation. He was signed to a contract after a good season and then completely sucked on Florida.

Don’t act like Z can’t be traded because you are wrong. He isn’t a dubas player but I’m sure there are GMs that like what he brings.

How long do you want him playing in Europe?
- PatC80

As long as necessary. His dad did it back in the day.

If the option is 6.9 AAV for 6 goals and 27 points...

...or...

700K for a replacement player and probably the same numbers.

I'm gonna take the 6.2 in cap space (basically Marleau) and keep the real best players happy.

When he said the NHL doesn't suspend guys for the 'push' from behind when it happened to McDavid. Meanwhile OV got suspended for that very thing on Campbell. He's a league apologist. This playoffs more than any. But you worship him, it's cool.

None.

He had 30 bad games after starting the season mid way through. I’ll take the 200 other games to properly analyze how good he is. Like any competent person should.

At this point, there is no longer a need to discuss this with you. If you think a replacement player is as good as Nylander, I can't help you.

Adding to that, the Leafs were second overall. They had all the leverage on the kid. All of it. He has no options. Cave.

6 goals, 27 points.

Even Tyler (frank)ing Ennis had 12 goals.

I'll ask again.. It was widely reported that Nylander was asking for $8M per season, Leafs signed him to a deal at 6.9M, how did they cave?

Let's say he is worth 6.9. He isn't on the Leafs. They don't need his type of player and certainly not for that cap hit with all the guys they have coming up. Should have traded his rights as many people said at the time.

Sorry Pat, this is incorrect.

The narrative at the time was, "Holy frank, does this guy really think he is worth as much as Pastrnak?"

It's 6.9 cap hit, cause he got paid 10.3 this year.
