I dont say it often, but i sure agree with Donny on this one. The only thing Hutton has proven himself to be is a liability unfortunately. - neem55
Hutton is basically Erik Karlsson...minus the good looks, IQ, shot and vision. They both melt in their own end. He is basically a fatter Karlsson Without the offence |

I truly don't care about his salary at the end of the day, and I don't think Donny, or anyone else wanting to go a different route is either. I think its more so about keeping him for the bottom pair, or thinking you can replace him and go in a different direction.
and to answer the bold above. Yes, I think so. Rutherford acquired Gudbranson while giving up someone who scored 9 goals in 19 games. Dorion is a moron. Paul Fenton is an idiot. - Codes1087
The league is full of stupid GM’s. At the very least, I hope they are exploring if he has trade value |

I imagine you could flip his rights to OTT ( Hutton's hometown team ), a team insanely thin for defensemen at both the NHL/AHL level, have them sign him a 2 or 3 year deal, and we would get as much if not more than retaining his salary and moving him mid season, just my opinion though. - Codes1087
Heres the thing, if he's barely a NHL defensemen, as I keep reading, and he has a cap hit that is out of whack with his value....why would anyone give up a pick for him?
Just saying....seems like a paradox. Can't have it both ways..... |

Hutton isn't top 4 by any means, but he is easily a 3rd pairing dman. This whole idea he is fringe is absurd. Some people here seem to think that every other teams bottom pairing dmen are infinitely better than Hutton. They aren't. He played some good hockey when Tanev and Edler were hurt at the same time. If he could play with more consistency, he would be a top 4 guy. |

This.
If fine if they choose not to sign him. I’m fine if they sign him for 1 year. I don’t think they can trade him so it doesn’t really matter. |

You can’t walk away from the arbitration ruling and he could get a significant raise. Flip him for a pick prior to the draft as the last thing we need is a $3.5MM number 6 dman. Sign a vet for 1 year $1.5MM to play with Schenn. - CanuckDon
Like we don't need a $13M fourth line? Yet that's what we have. |

That’s irrelevant. What we need is to save cap now and/or spend that money on a decent player elsewhere. Just because you’ve made a mistake doesn’t mean you should make the same mistake again.... kinda suggests the opposite. |

The thing is that you don't know if is a mistake until it becomes one. People were generally happy(or indifferent) about the Loui Eriksson signing. It wasn't until he played like sh!t his first season that people started hating it. |

Fact is, if he's getting paid, he's valued at more than a #6. Mores like a #4/5 guy......which is exactly as I see him.
Canuck fans need to get over this whole green is greener thing they got going on......
Hutton is a quality #5 guy who can spot in as a #4 and maybe a #3 if pressed.
Let's use the Boston Bruins for context and I'll use the most basic stat as a barometer since I'm lazy and don't want to do much more research....
In terms of points:
Krug 53
McAvoy 28
Grzelcyk 18
Chara 14
Moore 13
Carlo 10
Lots of other factors obviously, but, undoubtedly Hutton could play in that top 6 and thats potentially the SC Champs!
I'm not even a Hutton guy to be honest but lets be real, he's a NHL defenseman and Vancouver needs him.......especially if Edler walks..... |

Beagle is fine if we get rid of Sutter. A lot of teams are paying several million for their 4c. If Eriksson wasn't on our 4th line, nobody would be complaining about it. We would have a 7m 4th line which isn't terrible(assuming Motte signs for around 1m) |

I don't want to pay Hutton. I was just pointing out that the canucks have lots of things they don't need. |

Edler will sign the 2 year deal. At the end of the day he doesn't want to move his family and doesn't want to leave his best friends. 2 year deal is the only way he gets expansion protection. I doubt other teams give him 3+ with a NMC either. |

But Sutter is still on the team, so is Eriksson, and Motte was a one off. He won’t make the team out of camp next season. |

Granlund's a RFA I believe. Gaudette's cap hit is $1.5M. Virt's is $1.3M. And then you need to find a space for Spooner's $4M.
That 3rd line ain't going to be $3M. Think higher. |

I think Motte repeats his play. Sutter we find some kind of deal for, there is bound to be another GM who still see's him as a valuable 3c(he would be for us if not for Gaudette). Eriksson I think will either be traded, or will be the highest pay AHL player in ages(maybe even history). |

i am just as ok with letting him walk, than I am dealing him for a late round pick.
I am just of the opinion of thinking I would rather see someone else play 5/6 than Hutton. |

I didn’t say we had a 3m 3 rd line...
Now that Broc is going to have to get paid, Petey and Hughes the year after, the salaries will start to get top heavy and the role players at the bottom of the roster will need to turn over for cheaper options. |
