I will be very serious about this , be careful what you wish for. Benning will go shopping this year to fix holes.
If he doesn't fix the D in the draft he will be shopping and you can weary that it will be Myers and The guy from Toronto.
If you do have young D that are two years away then any D they sign this summer will not be long term - VANTEL
Good thing UFA season follows the draft. JB can see how the draft goes for us 1st. After that i can see him adjusting to a UFA or 2. |

Broberg lol - Nighthawk
No he mentioned another over rated Swede D banning pick w top 10 pick. Who was that then?
Not Oj or hughes, the only top 10 D picks he's made. |

Best way to increase scoring + win games is to improve the D. Opposition can't score on us when not getting scoring chances or hemmed in their own zone.
The more time in opposing zone the more we can score.
Tight forechecking increases scoring chances - SMBDragon
& the wrong way to go about that is to pass on legit top 6 prospects to select a D who’s not much better than guys who could be selected at 40 or even 71. Look up Spence, Constantinou, Struble etc. I’d much rather have any of them 30-61 picks later AFTER we lock in a piece of the future top 6. |

Hughes will help exit the zone but still need another top 4D either by trade or UFA. I wouldn’t force it this draft at where we pick. D in the 2nd round & later helps our D prospect pool just fine. |

A top 6 F is what he hope for. As you say it’s the best scenario this draft. |

When would that top 6 forward be ready? 2021-22? Drafted 3 years ago Tyson Jost highest season 12 g 26 points. That is what you should be expecting in three years.

Amen. Picking for need at the top of the draft is the worst possible way to construct a team |

He was drafted 10 th - VANTEL
Earliest is 2020-21 much depends on who falls to us. I feel good a high prospect will.
I also think we might trade for a winger.
After Byram goes all the next D are a big drop to top 4 ceilings at best. I don’t see any urgency for them. |

You don't want to sign Hutton . Minimum salary is 3.7 . If they go to arbitration he will get 4.3 and Canucks can not walk away .

I really don’t think he’s tradable at his current contract value/rfa status. He’ll get a 1mil contract as a UFA |

That is total Bull Sh1t . Broberg is 17 you are telling me you can predict his best in 7 years
One guy says one thing and it grows and grows and everyone starts believing the stories. This BS about a weak D class is like a fisherman tale .
From the two tournaments I have seen him play he reminds me exactly like Edler. I will take that any day. |

Beat me to it. Ya that price is not tradable, just have to let him walk |

It gets very complicated if it goes to arbitration? Do you think he will take a salary cut? I heard something the other day soon as they make him an offer if could be complicated. They are best to trade before draft or let him walk.
Can't remember the exact details

don't we just have to qualify him with a 10% raise? on the 2.8 he's at now that would just bump him over 3 |

Admittedly I don't know anyone beyond top 15, I just haven't had the time.
I do like broberg but byram is my pick.
However forwards aren't going to improve the D or forecheck so your point really isn't valid
I do usually agree with most of your posts tho btw |

They went into details on the Reach Deep SN650 show yesterday. I was half listening but it goes something like if they make a qualifying offer and he refuses then it goes to arbitration.
He had 20 pts last year which they consider average and the league average salary is 3.7 mil to 4.3 mil which they would award him something in that range. Whatever figure in that range they come back with Canucks would have to pay they could not refuse . It could be a one or two year deal.

ok , but he was a minus 23 so there would be some back and forth i'd imagine
I think you just come to a 1 year 3-3.5 and see how it plays out |

They could easily blame Pouliot and the goal tending . They mentioned that the plus minus would not impact the decision
Aside from that do you really want to see Hutton back there again? |

I don't really give a rats ass for him , but i would hesitate to just lose an asset for nothing too, he did seem to get better as the year went on and maybe another harder offseason will lead to a break-out year for him.

I don't like him at all.
He gives up a lot of 2 on 1 s . He is not much better than Pouliot IMO

Hutton $2.4m plus $400k bonus
Qualifying offers are one-year contract offers that have to meet the following salary requirements:
if the player’s NHL salary was $660k or less, the offer must be at least 110% of the prior year’s salary
if the player’s NHL salary was more than $660k but less than $1 million, the offer must be at least 105% of the prior year’s salary (but not more than $1 million)
if the player’s NHL salary was $1 million or more, the offer must be at least 100% of the prior year’s salary
if the qualifying offer is a two-way deal, the minor league salary can’t be lower than it was the previous season
A qualifying offer has to be a one-way deal if the player has played in 180 or more NHL games the last three seasons, played at least 60 NHL games the previous season, and not cleared waivers the previous season.
With that out of the way, as long as a Qualifying Offer has been tendered by June 25th (or the first Monday after the NHL Draft – whichever is later), the player is considered a restricted free agent. The player doesn’t have to like it or sign it, but the offer has to be made. If no qualifying offer is made, the player is considered “non-tendered” and immediately becomes an unrestricted free agent, free to sign with whomever. Basically, if the team isn’t willing to give you a one-year deal, they really don’t want you, so go get what you can.
At 100% is a 1-way $2.4m we can qualify him for. He can go through with arbitration for more but it’s not a fun route. He is a bottom 5-6 D man. |
