Hutton $2.4m plus $400k bonus
Qualifying offers are one-year contract offers that have to meet the following salary requirements:
if the player’s NHL salary was $660k or less, the offer must be at least 110% of the prior year’s salary
if the player’s NHL salary was more than $660k but less than $1 million, the offer must be at least 105% of the prior year’s salary (but not more than $1 million)
if the player’s NHL salary was $1 million or more, the offer must be at least 100% of the prior year’s salary
if the qualifying offer is a two-way deal, the minor league salary can’t be lower than it was the previous season
A qualifying offer has to be a one-way deal if the player has played in 180 or more NHL games the last three seasons, played at least 60 NHL games the previous season, and not cleared waivers the previous season.
With that out of the way, as long as a Qualifying Offer has been tendered by June 25th (or the first Monday after the NHL Draft – whichever is later), the player is considered a restricted free agent. The player doesn’t have to like it or sign it, but the offer has to be made. If no qualifying offer is made, the player is considered “non-tendered” and immediately becomes an unrestricted free agent, free to sign with whomever. Basically, if the team isn’t willing to give you a one-year deal, they really don’t want you, so go get what you can.
At 100% is a 1-way $2.4m we can qualify him for. He can go through with arbitration for more but it’s not a fun route. He is a bottom 5-6 D man. - Nighthawk
Qualifying Hutton is a huge mistake. |

I wouldn’t either unless a sign & trade in the works &/or in a package or just let him walk is fine with me.
After Hughes & Edler he is too expensive on the 3rd pairing. |

Yeah, it's more addition by subtraction, like Pouliot & Gaunce. |

I don't really give a rats ass for him , but i would hesitate to just lose an asset for nothing too, he did seem to get better as the year went on and maybe another harder offseason will lead to a break-out year for him. - onesmallleap
For something to be an asset, it has to hold value |

Only temporarily. Top 4 D need to be better & he’s not the answer. Depth D only. Looking ahead to the day Edler & Tanev are gone leaves big holes. Hughes & Stetcher & OJ & Woo & Rathbone is a young group. The next few years the need for 1-2 top 2-3 D is crucial for us to keep ascending.
Hughes Woo
OJ Stetcher
Rathbone ???
Shows the huge task to get a top RHD. Idk about Rafferty yet other than depth.

Looking ahead to 2019 & 2020 RFA/UFA RHD Trouba sticks out like a sore thumb of all on the list. 2019 compensation is as follows.

I know people wont like it, but im pretty sure Tanev will re-sign. I say this knowing ive called for him to be traded multiple times. I’d be somewhat surprised if they didnt retain one of the two defence that can actually do their job while we rebuild the backend |

My understanding is that if you make an offer he can file for arbitration. He’s not worth the price you mention and could get mire from arbitration so it’s tine to say bye bye. Rookie sensation who didnt pan out defensively. That first contact kind and f screwed us, but i would be shocked if we could get anything when everyone knows he’s ufa bound(i really hope) |

They’ll like it once they realize that his presence allows Hughes to go full Hughes.
This is also the reason I want to draft Jordan Spence. His responsibility/reliability/poise/positioning/IQ reminds me of Tanev, but with a bit more offensive upside. Future top pairing partner for Q. I hope we acquire another 2nd round pick somehow. |

Jesus, I'm sorry guys but you re-sign Hutton.
I don't even have the energy to call you fickle Canuck fans cum guzzlers let alone bless you with an argument.
Hutton is not Pouliot and is just a stop-gap until the younger guys are ready to step in which could be mid-season.
1 year, $2.4 mill - who cares? |

You don't want to sign Hutton . Minimum salary is 3.7 . If they go to arbitration he will get 4.3 and Canucks can not walk away . - VANTEL

Tanev probably won't reach 40 games...Edler maybe 50-60.
Need someone back there when the injuries strike. |
