He was bad before the injury. Im talking about the first two months they acquired him. That year he played 82 games, he was good for about 30 - Sabresfan-365
He scored 53-57 points 5 straight years including his first year in Arizona. Last year he wasn't on par to hit that again but he's only 28 and this is his first year getting a major injury. He's not Okposo territory.

After watching his Hlinka Tourney, I'd beg to differ.
Zegras, however, would be a great addition as well I think. Not sold on Krebs yet. His fancy stats look purty though. - RhinoFan
I joke when I say Cozens will bust. Just like him the least of the big names for the most part. |

Lias Andersson already got playing time this year. He could be full time next year and be the new Stepan for NYR except 9 years younger and cheap. |

Meh he is at the point in the aging curve where he is definitely nearing Okposo territory. |

Ya'll really don't think that 7th overall and Risto for Point, Callahan (1 year), 27th overall and another guy like maybe Palat or a 2nd/3rd rounder is a decent starting point?
I really think that if 7th overall is included that we have the assets to get Point. |

He had fewer primary points than Jason Pominville, and he's due 6.5 million for two more years.
Okposo territory is an exaggeration on my part and perhaps a bad one. But it doesn't change the point. They moved a top 10 pick for an at best 2nd line centre who isn't good defensively. There are more cost effective ways of getting that sort of player. |

Okposo is very close to LTIR for the rest of his career. It might not even take a big hit.. just any hit at all. Stepan is not that. |

He really came on late. He had like 3 points through his first dozen or more games, was really struggling. The light flicked on.
I would wait for camp before I made that determination. I think he is very, very close. Just 2 cents.
Edit: I have Nylander getting a spot, Asplund and Borgen as first call ups. Now that the NFL draft is over, it's Sabres time again. Been playing Arm Chair GM on twitter daily. ) - RhinoFan

I was there for a while, but you're not going to get value for that pick.
The history of top 10 picks being traded and working out for that team is Carolina/Jordan Staal. (cap era)
That's it.
Arizona got 2 months of value from stepan and are now stuck with an okposo like contract. - Sabresfan-365

Sure
But i think Tampa would demand a good young Center like Mitts in any deal where they’d move Point
Mitts + taking Callahan’s Cap hit
for Point
is pretty equal value imo
***and if they want Risto too, then they’d have to add another piece(s) |

Not disagreeing with you on that but Point is going to be asking for $9M price range money just like Stamkos and Kucherov.
Can they really afford Stamkos 8.5, Kucherov, 9.5, Hedman 7.8M, McDonaugh 6.8M, AND add Point at ~9M??
Palat, Miller, Killorn, Johnson, Gourde all in long term 4.5-5.5M deals.
They could move Palat's 5.5M and Callahan's 5.8M. Add Risto to Hedman and McDonagh with Coburn, Stralman, and Girardi all UFAs. Plus get a 7th overall for it who they can actually give time to grow in minors.
I guess I don't think it's that outlandish. |

If you can't get one of byram, boldy or Turcotte at 7 just trade down. fleece some 12th or 13th pick team into giving up a poop ton to move into the top 10. The guys they'll pick from are a combo of very risky or thoroughly un inspiring.
use the extra assets to add some nhl talent and pick high risk/high reward players |

But you just said it, they could just move the secondary players to keep point. It's only outlandish because an opportunity exists for Tampa Bay to keep Point with their core.
If the secondary guys were making 5 mil and scoring 5 goals a year, then yeah they're in a bind.

Bruh c'mon with this...
Point had 92 points this year. Mitts probably won't have that as his career total by the end of next year. |
