I worry about guys that shoot up the board from out of nowhere.
- dadeadhead

That’s fair.
He didn’t exactly come “from out of nowhere”. He was hanging out in the mid-teens and seemed to rise even before his kickass junior tournament.

He's the owner, she runs the place, they're liable. Now whether they should've known this guy had a problem(like is being proposed in the suit) is another story, but owners and even individual bartenders are liable for over-serving.
- Wetbandit1

This is not necessarily true and would vary by state based on statute. Not all states have dram shop laws. Florida--where The Woods is located--has one, but it explicitly says a person serving alcohol to a person of legal drinking age cannot be liable for damage caused by the intoxication of that person. There are two exceptions: (1) serving to a minor or (2) serving someone who is known to be habitually addicted to alcohol.

That second exception is why the dead guy's family is calling him an alcoholic in their complaint and saying that Tiger, his girlfriend, and the bar knew the dude was an alcoholic.
768.125 Liability for injury or damage resulting from intoxication.—A person who sells or furnishes alcoholic beverages to a person of lawful drinking age shall not thereby become liable for injury or damage caused by or resulting from the intoxication of such person, except that a person who willfully and unlawfully sells or furnishes alcoholic beverages to a person who is not of lawful drinking age or who knowingly serves a person habitually addicted to the use of any or all alcoholic beverages may become liable for injury or damage caused by or resulting from the intoxication of such minor or person.

Cool.

Alcohol hits everyone different.

He was either a) drinking on his shift, b) can’t handle his alcohol, or c) has been drinking heavily for days.

I’m guessing it’s option c and I blame his family. Get him committed for 48-72 hrs if they know he has a problem. Most people that have issues like that are very good at hiding it. I’m not saying this is what he did but who’s to say he wasn’t drinking hotel bottles on the sly at work?

Everyone likes to blame others rather than look in the mirror and realize you didn’t do enough to help your family member.

Many prior to the season had him 20’s or later and now he’s a top 10 pick? Imo that’s shooting up the board.

It was 6pm when he crashed how long could he possibly have been sitting there? 1 "drink" is .02, and it takes about an hour to clear your system. .256 is basically 13 "drinks", plus 5 if we're saying he sat there since noon. 18 "drinks" in a little over 5 hours is way, way over-served. Even for Florida.

Edit: Finished shift at 3.

- Wetbandit1

I believe it depends on the state. Some states I know have no laws at all, some are super strict. Here in New York, I can say having bartended for 10 years now, if someone just gets a DWI, no police officer is going back to their bar to investigate.

Essentially there were two kinds of people we had to cut off or not serve:

1) Underagers
2) Absolute drunks that would get sloppy

Give them water, ask to call a cab for them and pay, you mitigate a lot of that liability in any state.

No but part of the bet had to do with not throwing up and drinking til 4am and being out the next day starting at 10am. Was one hell of a hangover on Monday but it was worth the $1000.

Were assuming Turcotte is off the board here, right?
- PrinceChill

Yes sir. Turcotte is my favourite player in the draft after Kakko and Hughes.

Exactly. We are going to have some good players to choose from.

Kakko and Hughes

Then everyone else, maybe Turcotte as a tier between.

Then Zegras, Dach, Cozens, Caufield, Byram, Pod, Krebs and Boldy.

We pick 7th. We will get our pick of 4 of those last tier. I see positives for each and every one of them.

They'd want a *very good young C back, which im almost certain they could get from several other teams.

13 mil in cap space during their compete window doesn't make up for losing an elite centre and replacing him with someone that might be good.

- Sabresfan-365

They’d have the pieces to shelter & develop Mitts though
Anyways... I’m just saying
A deal where we’d get Point would almost certainly involve them getting Mitts

point averaged almost 80 a year over the last 2 years

if the sabres got him, he would be a 60 pointer scorer and a goat

- homiedclown

I don’t think he’d take that type of drop
But getting him is likely unrealistic anyways

I think William Karlsson would be a great trade target

That's fair. Pod can probably get stacked in with Tier 2, but there are question marks there.

He's good. I hope the Sabres avoid him. We're a team that a guy COULD stay in Russia to avoid.

Didn't he sign 2 years for CSKA or something, saying if he wasn't playing NHL minutes he'd stay? Something like that.

Probably just jabber, but turned me off a bit. Where there's smoke, there's fire.

Its garbage in my opinion based on personal responsibility. I don't care about legal precedence. The legal system is a joke.

He does have 2 more years on his Russian deal and is property of one of the richer teams so there is definitely some risk. DET and Yzerman have solid history with Russians so I am hoping he slides to them.

Tiger Woods employee that got drunk at work and killed himself.

His family is suing Woods, Woods GF, and the establishment claiming he was a habitual alcoholic and shouldn’t have been served.
