The flip side of that change is that isn't it possible that one or more of those players could be traded in a deal so they wouldn't make up the 4th line? If we're talking hypotheticals, isn't that a possibility? Or can we only use hypotheticals that are agreeable to the group think?

No, hypotheticals are hypothetical, anything can happen. You're scenario is a possibility, but hypothetically, if none of those guys are traded, it would be a good 4th line.

Fletcher could view Scott Laughton and Ryan Hartman as third line players, so no, it really isn’t. Both of which saw of third line time last season.

would you consider laughton and hartman better NHLers than Corban Knight, Phil Varone, and Justin Bailey? If so, then Fletcher as an NHL caliber GM, should see what everyone sees and know that these guys do not make a team a cup contender. What makes a team a cup contender, which is evident almost every where you look in these playoffs (Vegas, San Jose, Boston, Washington, St. Louis, etc etc etc) teams roll 4 lines, and on top of that, the 4th line isn't a harbinger for the entire team.
