Bergeron is good comparable in terms of play style and ceiling potential. And that is a great type of franchise player. - Pomegrant
poop I would be happy as hell if he reaches Bergeron’s level |

Nico's ceiling is definitely Bergeron/Kopitar/Barkov. Great two way center that isn't necessarily putting up 90+ points all the time but is putting up solid offensive numbers while being great defensively. Could be a big part of both the PP and the PK.
Hughes' ceiling is moreso that of a 90+ point offensive center. Huge part of the PP, not often seen on the PK. |

Swiss are playing a lot of garbage teams right now. Not disagreeing that he's doing great but he's beating up on less comp right now. |

True, sick goal still. Hughes is playing much better today too, but probably for the same reason. |

Hughes looked great today. Snake-bitten, did you see the save Great Britain's goalie made on him late in the game? And another great save off a slick pass from Hughes earlier in the game as well. Between today and the Slovakia game Hughes could easily have four or so points in this tournament. |

That's another thing...the USA in general has looked like crap this whole tournament, which in a way leads me to put even less stock in Hughes' performance... |

Good write up Todd. My takeaway from this is, Kakko will probably not be as good a player as Hughs, five years from now, probably ever. Kakko on the other hand is probably much closer to being NHL ready, conceivably could make a team in the 2019/20 season. His physical attributes are much further developed than Hughs. Who on the other hand is probably two to threes years away from being NHL ready, but worth the wait in the long term. |

Hughes is not two or three years away, he will start and stay in the NHL. He will grow and adjust quickly. He will also probably have Palmieri and Zacha (maybe even bring in Simmonds) on his wings to watch over him. |

That seems to run contrary to the explanation as to why he isn’t scoring, and limited ice time at the world’s. |

Just throwing thoughts out there, no reason to resort to put downs.
“Hughes was never, ever, going to play that much for USA. Jack Eichel makes $10 million a year and recently put up 80+ points. Dylan Larkin makes $6 million a year and recently put up 70 points. Those guys are obviously going to play significantly more minutes than someone who was 17 when the tournament started. The only center you'd hope Hughes would get more reps than is Luke Glendening. It just so happens that Glendening is a favorite of Jeff Blashill, his NHL head coach, and that's who is running the bench for USA.
Put another way, Hughes isn't seeing limited ice because he isn't playing well enough, or is lacking talent. He's seeing limited ice because there are stars at his position on the roster, and the lesser guys (like Glendening) probably wouldn't commit to flying to the other side of the world for a tournament if they weren't going to play a meaningful role.”
I’m not saying Kakko is going to be better than Hughs in the long run. Just that they’re starting from different places. Kakko is use to playing with men Hughs is use to playing with boys. It may take some time for Hughs make the adjustment to playing with men. Yes Hughs still probably gets selected first because he has the higher ceiling.
Assuming you guys are right and both players play in the NHL next season, it’ll be interesting to see who has the better rookie season. |

Yeah, I've said that he's bad. But you're the one saying Hughes is undersized when you root for a team with Kane and Debrincat on it. maybe you have a mental disability, I don't really know. |
