Going back in the thread a bit here. I's not that Sandin couldn't turn out really well even at 19-20, it is merely against the odds. I would love it if he could step right in and be awesome, I just wouldn't bet on it. - aminnes

You too?
What the (frank) is wrong with you.
I asked if you thought Nylander would really be Mackinnon.
That is a perfectly valid question in retort to your original comparison. If anything YOU are the one comparing the two more closely than I am. I happen to think they are nothing alike.
YOU used the Mackinnon example of what could happen. You opened up the topic. - Aetherial
This is what they do man. All day. Defect, defect defect. They make statements and then try to turn them into you making twisting their words. They are fanboys. 50, 60, 100 years could go by but it's all good with the leafs whether they win a damn thing or not. |

Remember when he was done and wasnt gonna repeat last year.
Canes are done - Fakepartofme
His numbers weren't as good as they were last year.
He was better than Sparks though, but that's not saying much. |

I used MacKinnon as an example because he didn't break out until his 5th season. I'm not saying Nylander is going to be MacKinnon or better, I'm saying give him a chance. - PatC80
MacKinnon started his first season at 18.
Nylander did not. |

Then why use Mac? Why not use someone like Nylander? |

Wait...what? I didn't compare them at all. All I said was imagine if Colorado traded MacKinnon after he only put up 38 points in his second season. |

So I should have said what? Imagine if we traded Nylander after his 2nd season? |

They aren't comparable bro. They just aren't. It was a bad comparison is all. Simple as that. |

It wasn't an actual comparison though. It was more about being patient with Nylander. Perhaps I should have said the Leafs should be patient with Nylander just like Colorado was with MacKinnon. |

I think Risto would be better on a good team. - PatC80
I don't think he would be. He's a power play specialist and just flat out useless defensively. |

Don’t be so obtuse. What he said was it’s risky to give up on a good young player too quickly. I’m paraphrasing because tonight there seems to be some comprehension issues.
Nowhere did he compare the two players.

Fair enough. But ultimately is Nylander what they need moving forward? I mean, unless he morphs into Mac is he really necessary? Can't they score lots without him. Don't they need his cap space for defence? |

Anyone that matters knows what you meant. You're allowed to compare things that are different ...it's called an analogy. You pointed out that the situations (not the players) were similar and you were right.

I think he's been expected to do too much on a poopty team. In a reduced role with less pressure he'd do well. |
