For drinking or Pickleball? I could be coaxed either way. |

Wife and I waited, Jay and Silent Bob style out front of Buffy’s for an hour.
Camping at the potholes, River front spot, so good! |

I wish I knew. I live just down the road from Buffy's. But alas, I was at the Government Liquor store. Tears in my eyes. Pickleballs in hand. |

Like it or not, he's probably going to be re-elected, despite legal proceedings. |

He's going to be the Republican candidate... re-elected as President isn't so probable. If he's convicted, I think you'll see more and more republicans just not turn out. |

Trump can still be elected while he has charges against him. He still has a huge following. The US is messed up, this is just part of the process. He'll get more votes than Biden this time around.

Oh ya, I'm not saying he can't be elected. I'm just saying as these trials go forward, and news comes out of the evidence against him (especially if the Georgia trial is televised), you'll see more moderate/uneasy Republican voters not show up. Trump has his base (about 1/3 of Republican voters) that will come out no matter what... but there's a large section unaccounted for there.
Either way, it'd be better if there were better and younger candidates, and even better if they just revamped their entire stupid electoral system. But ya know, 250 year old papers dictates all. |

I think Trump is the only candidate Biden can beat, mostly for the reasons you already laid out, and I think any other republican candidate, no matter their policy or ideology views would win the election in a landslide.
Trump is like Peter Pan. If you stop believing in him he just fades back into mara mara land. |

Trump is a demagogue just like the late Steven Hawking said. He has more followers than you may think, regardless of his legal issues he can very well get back in. He says what a good majority of Americans are afraid to.
History always repeats itself. |

I think there are enough sane, moral, ethical Republicans that will either vote for Biden or more likely just not vote at all. And I disagree that other people want to say the things he says but are afraid to. Anyone who can’t see past his BS is a moron, and morons don’t stop to think before they speak. |

Don't underestimate how many racists/rednecks lurk in the shadows in the US as well as Canada. The 2024 election will be a sh*tshow. |

Then they are a seriously (frank)ed up nation and the only way out is an American civil war., because this isn’t the way civilized nations operate in a Democracy. |

Good thing Canada is making a game plan if the US goes full on Trump-inspired authoritarian:

Probably. Unfortunately, no other Republican candidate can beat Trump. There was a good Daily episode about it the other day, which is both funny and terrible in how much support in the polling he got. The episode is about DeSantis' campaign stumbles, but juxtaposes that against Trump:

Yeah,Ron DeSanctamoneos would be awful. He seems smart, but he’s as big a moron as Trump.
I wonder how accurate this polling is. I wonder if moderate people are being included. If you take a poll from a bunch of crazy people you’ll get crazy responses… Mike Pence, even though he’s a religious nut and will continue down the anti-abortion route is probably the guy gets things back on the rails. He’d be the GOP’s Biden, just 20 years younger. |

I would assume the polling is as accurate as polling is... which can be very accurate or pretty damn off. https://www.nytimes.com/2...od.html#commentsContainer
The Daily from yesterday was about the Republican debate, and one of the hosts said that Pence is basically the classic/traditional American conservative, and Trump (Ramaswamy as the sort of right-wing stand-in at the debate) are the face of the "new" GOP... and the party/base is still grappling with that decision. Interesting way of looking at it. |
