Hate to change the subject, because this is all so fascinating, but what's the deal with trans kids (and by kids I mean young adults)?
- 1970vintage

it's a fad, an experiment, trying to be cool and controversial.

Just made that poop up, is there a deal with trans young adults? I have a young niece who is now my nephew but it was something we expected and were not shocked when he and his sister came to visit, in fact quite suits him.

Mental illness? Hormonal imbalance? Fetus development issues? Choice?

I have no idea.

It appears as though the Conservatives are going to get a record majority. The people have had enough!!!

2025 is a long ways away. But if Trudeau stays it will be like Harper's loss.

I saw a Toronto Star head reporter state that Pollieve has pissed off a very large portion of conservative supporters of Ukrainian heritage with his very misinformed stance on the Canadian Gov't support for the Ukrainian War effort.

Just a start but his idiotic Harperism views are showing, the reporter likened it to Trump style remarks.

The reporters also said if the liberal caucus backs Trudeau it will not end well for Justin, more like a conservative minority.

I appears as though people are generally just happy to vote for anyone but Trudeau. If it wasn't Poilievere it would be someone else. Kinda like what you saw with Trump and now what you're seeing in Europe. People are just tired of all the far left liberalism.

I guess what I’m wondering is where someone would decide they need to be “a boy” or “a girl” rather than being gay, for example. I have to think it’s a much tougher road forming intimate relationships.

Like why would a young lad want to be an ugly woman when they could be a hot gay dude? .

I don’t have any in my world to ask so…

Ole Justin has won three elections, 2015, 2019, and 2021. He had no business winning the last two elections but here he is. Never underestimate the voting power of southern Ontario. They have had a taste of conservative populism in Ford and they can't stand it. I wouldn't be surprised if Justin wins again by the slimmest of margins with help from the NDP.

Outside of Vancouver, it's generally the Conservatives vs the NDP anyways.

He didn't really win though, technically yes he did, but, he hasn't had the populous vote in the past two elections. The whole Canadian system is poor and needs to be overhauled. We need to break from the British monarchy and create a Canadian republic and identity, as it's slowly eroding away.

"The Liberals set a record for the lowest vote share of a party that would go on to form government, winning 32.6 per cent of the popular vote, while losing the popular vote to the Conservatives as they did in 2019."

I will give Justin some credit as he did commission a study in 2016 to look into alternatives to our first-past-the-post voting system. The Special Committee on Electoral Reform proposed two changes: The first was to replace Canada's traditional first-past-the-post model with a proportional system of representation. Second, it recommended that the idea be put to a referendum.

Here's what that would have looked like in 2019:

Will change actually deliver better democracy or a better, more representative House of Commons or government? I have no idea, but one problem I see is proportional representation creates governing coalitions. Not great to get work done. You only have to look at other countries like Italy to see where coalition leads. Chaos.

Who Can Vote

To vote in the next provincial general election or by-election, you must be:

* a Canadian citizen,
* 18 or older, and
* a resident of B.C. for the six months before Final Voting Day.

The next provincial election is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, 2024.

Voting in a provincial election is an important part of British Columbia’s democratic process. It is a chance for every eligible person to influence policies that affect them on a daily basis. With only a simple mark on a ballot, voting lets British Columbians decide who will represent them and what their future will look like. The right to vote is protected by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

I live on UBC campus. I can not vote in Vancouver Municipal elections because it's not considered a part of Vancouver. Not part of any jurisdiction. Essentially no-man's land.

You don't pay any taxes in BC so why should you vote there?

Fair point...I'm not a resident there, or a Canadian resident for that matter, so stands to reason.

I’m all for it. The more government murder plots the better. Someone’s got to keep the people in line.
