It's almost always smart to trade down. If I was a GM, and had the 14th pick, I'd definitely be interested in moving from 14 to 20. You add assets and you get almost the same chance of drafting a good player.

it depends if when the 14th pick occurs, if somebody is still on the board your team desperately coveted

that kind of trade would happen in that moment, never ahead of time

Another vague blog around a random idea with not much thought put behind it. No mention of what the return might be or what area Chayka might target. Quick to mention players in certain areas but completely ignored a plethora of players who we don’t really know if they’re top 6 or bottom 6. Knowing that and missing a top 6 forward it makes perfect sense that Chayka would stand pat at the draft and look to add in free agency as he did last year. Ottawa is the perfect team to take on Hossa’s contract if need be. Ideally someone is added this summer and if not you see how everyone starts the season and make a trade to upgrade as needed

Careful, statements like this will get you banned. Even among other SJW's, Tanner is recognized as being overly-sensitive.

Sorry, but I don't think the Coyotes are close enough to contention to be trading away 1st round picks. They might instead try trading some of those guys who are on the wrong side of 30.

Most importantly they need a new front office.

damn straight!!! They need to move on from that GM before he makes more bone-head moves like the Domi and Strome deals. Geez, on the other hand...hope they keep him and the Hawks can swing another deal or two with him!

Draft someone at #14, have him around for a few seasons and don't develop him. Then trade him to Chicago where he prospers.

There is a precedence here.
