Why would we assume that? - Ogilthorpe2
because he has more value to a budget team as a Bottom 6 player owed 2 years at 2.5 per year then the hawks at 2 years and 4.55 per year. lets take car and Az. both of those teams have a internal budget that is probably 70 mil range and they both are good young teams. would you rather have Dzingel at 5 mil for 5 years $25 with a NMC for 2 years, or AA for 2 years and 5mil total? I know we would not get allot for him maybe 3rd in 2020 or prospect. he also is going UFA so he is not going to effect your exp draft. he just is going to have way more value to other teams then to the hawks.
I mention the NMC because all the UFA's are going to try and get it for 2 years + so they are not going to seattle. or they at least can control if they goto seattle. its another reason why some UFA's might not get the offers they want. |

Why do people keep comparing Dzingel to Anisimov? One is a winger and one is a center. There is no comparison |

Ogi, you make me laugh to myself. Share your zeal, buddy. The bad news? The Blues will now win the series, and the calls made will go against the Sharks. Human nature. Wait for it! If St. Louis can't beat this geriatric band of has-beens, they should dissolve the franchise and move them to Quebec or Houston. Go Sharks!!! - gabriel
Not sure evander Kane, couture, hertl, burns, nyquist, pavelski, and karlsson are considered has beens lol. The sharks have a real good squad. |

Dzingel plays some center. and AA is career 45% face off guy so he is not really much of a center. I was using them more to show salary. lets use Kevin hayes then.
would CAR or AZ rather give hayes 5.5X6 and have to protect him the EXP draft or AA for 2 X 2.5 knowing they are tight with cash? AA is 45% FO and hayes is 50%

He takes face offs he doesn't play center. Ask a senators fan or a Columbus fan. He's a winger |

I think the Hawks are going to make a big splash on 7/1. I read your post earlier about letting the dust settle with some free agents who will sign for over market value...I think that this summer, Stan Bowman is gonna go a little wild with his spending. Just my thoughts. |

Anisimov isn't as bad as people make him out to be. Plus they don't need his contract gone this season anyway. So just move him because some fans don't like him? Ya. Ok. |

I was all aboard the 'Trade AA' train but now I'm not so sure. Maybe the Hawks keep Anisimov for one more season. I am leary of signing any of the current UFAs to big money deals. Plus, if AA can be expansion draft fodder then all the better. The Hawks could do worse than Anisimov on the 3rd line, the overall centre depth of 19/17/15/64 is pretty solid. Should they draft Cozens or Turcotte (yes it would be crazy to not draft Caufield) the depth improves. |

As in Stan doing a belly flop in the kiddie pool. |

he is not a D man or a goalie and I used him for $$ amount reasons for comparing there salaries and not position.
all my points about yearly salary, Long term commitment and NMC and the EXP draft are all valid points on why budget teams would want AA and not any of the UFA's that project in bottom 6 or borderline bottom 6.

I don't think you can lump the Canes in there any longer. Under new ownership, just had a real nice playoff run, season ticket renewals and new plans sold doing very well. I don't expect them to spend to the ceiling but, they should no longer be considered a "budget" team.

After a good nights rest I've decided it couldn't have happened to a better team. Boy are they signing the Blues in St. Louis. - walleyeb1
If it HAD to happen to somebody, St. Louis fits the bill for sure. I'm still not buying the idea that no one saw it (hand pass). The league really needs to step up though, because they lose credibility in the eyes of their fans. And, fans, are paying the freight.

I'm not saying he is bad just that he has more value to other teams then the hawks. if you could swap him for a pick and add Dzingel, Hayes or Nquist for roughly the same AAV you would get younger and faster and more production. is my point. he also is bad at FO which is a big part of what he should bring. all 3 of the guys mentioned went for 55.56,60 Pts. or maybe you move AA and sign Simmonds, ferland or Eberle for a mil less then AA on a 3 year deal. IE save money and get roughly the same production |

Point well received. Though on paper to me, the Sharks had much better teams in their prime. Like the Blues, have never won the Cup. The winner of the series to me, almost wins by default. Neither squad historically, can win when it matters. At least, until now.

Anybody that does not spend to celing when they are good IMO is a budget team some have higher budgets then others of course. the point is they could take on a extra 2 mil in AAV and still be under the cap. only 10 teams are profitable at the cap, most just by a little, another 10 break even roughly or just lose a little, and 10 would lose money. not the same as football and BBALL where they all are profitable at the cap. |

Thanks for raising me to expert status, but, nope, I am not.
I do think Turcotte has a chance to be a first line player, eventually.
He possesses all the tools that are required in the NHL.
Some have him having a high water mark of a second line centre.
I think the fact that the USA developmental team was so loaded and had so many high end impactful juniors, it is a difficult task to project every one else except Jack Hughes, and you have to take a leap of fate that he (and each and every prospect in the class) does the things necessary, grows into, and fits their eventual NHL teams ideas of how to play all over.
I saw where Powers called Turcotte "the guy with the most upside in the next group of players..." today.
I dunno if I can separate him from Dylan Cozen's upside, or dismiss the present version of Zegras as a guy who could be special, or the three others.
All that comes out to just how in-depth and comfortable the Hawks are going to feel with all and then they will decide, this kid works for us.
He handles the press,
has a head on his shoulders,
and he is gonna to make us look good down the road and be a real replacement as our core goes cold.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy your blogs and I enjoys the banter and speculation by other posters, but I personally have no clue who the best guy is and I tend to go with the last write up I read. - paulr
Believe me, we are not the experts, and we have to trust their staff, and but until then PICK one, place your bet on him, and then wait 4 years, and see if you can say, "I told you so!" |

Anyone opposed to Spezza on a 1-2 year, low AAV deal?
How’s his defensive responsibility and FO% for a 3C / 4C |

AA.
I know the Board in general has this infatuation with Dzingel, but I don’t get the love. He’s ok, but not worth the hype he’s getting from a lot of Hawk fans. Anisimov on the other hand, IMO is one the most underrated Hawk in recent memory. I wish he was better at face offs too, but he does so many of the little things that winning teams need, but goes unappreciated by a lot of fans. |

This draft reminds me of 2004 .Byram is Cam Barker ,Cozens is Blake Wheeler .I could be very wrong just the feel I get . I was all caught up in the Barker hype at the time . |

I don't think he is more than a 4C anymore, would rather just stay with Kampf. Spezzas offensive production has fallen off a cliff the past 2 years

I agree, Torts loved him in New York, he is a coaches dream. I also don't think he is as slow as people perceive, I think he just plays in control.
