They chose Drury and Drury stiffed them.
It was insane to choose Drury in the first place - OneKaneOneCup
There was a serious potential medical issue regarding signing Briere and insuring that contract, which is part of what caused their hesitation. |

Vanek has been getting 3rd line mins with pp time the past 3 yrs or so. He’s a better option than Pommer for a 3rd liner and it’ll only cost $2-2.5 mil. - dadeadhead
Underlying numbers say that Pommer is the safer player to have trolling around your 3rd line. Vanner might get you a couple more points, but he's much more of a liability. |

Would be. I haven't seen the Sabres tied to him though. Just "NHL interest". |

Barnaby said you pay Duchene all day long over Skinner. - SABRES 89
Barnaby said Duchene is a $10M per year player and is worth more than Skinner. I think Barnaby is nuts and so is anyone who is willing to pay this number. For Duchene - what would you pay?
I do not see where a team like the Sabres commits 12% of the Cap to get him. Am I nuts? |

Botterill wanted him before the trade deadline but didn't think the team was in a playoff position and he also didn't want to give up assets for no reason. He's going to get close to 10 from some team, I'd like to have him but you can't have a team filled with 8-10 mill a year players and expect to stay under the cap and compete. He's a young player he will get close or some desperate team will pay, word is a turned down 8 yrs 8 mill a year from Ottawa. |

For me I would rather pay a true #2 play making center top dollars then a winger..Duchene will get large $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ so will Skinner, IMO its not the money that will hurt the Sabres with Skinner, It's term... I would give Skinner 9 for 4 maybe 5 years.. I want no part of 7-8 years with him or any player that is 26-27 all ready

Duchene is 28 and will get 7 years.
He also has only had 2 really good years both in contract seasons.

I agree. The center can make the two wingers better. I am not sure the one winger does that for his other line mates.
If Skinner stays, I have the feeling he will only sign for the max 8 years.
Duchene - I think he only signs for the max 7 years or 8 with Columbus.
Skinner is getting $9(?) ish until he is 35.
Duchene gets $10(?) ish until he is 35.
If that happens, with Okposo (cannot get rid of), we eat up 42% of the Cap with four players. I think it is an either or.................. And or could be none of Skinner or Duchene. |

Kotalik/Drury/Grier
JP/Briere/Hecht
Vanek/Connolly/Max
Pyatt/Goose/Mair
Extra winger was Peters
JP, Briere, and Connolly all went down with injuries.
Roy got called up and slipped into Connolly’s spot
Pommer got called up and stepped into JP’s
Connolly once healthy moved into Briere’s spot
That’s what I remember. - dadeadhead
I think by the playoffs it was:
Roy Drury Grier
JP Briere Hecht
Pominville Connolly Afinogenov
Pyatt Gaustad Kotalik
Vanek was benched and/or played on the 4th line for much of the playoffs if I recall.
Once Connolly got knocked out, Roy centered Pominville and Afinogenov.
Kotalik moved up with Drury. Mair came onto the 4th line. |

Friedman just stated that "Skinner wants to be back at a certain term and money", meaning, he wants to be paid.
He also said that he does not believe the coach matters in the decision making for his stay or go.

I've resigned myself to the fact that Skinner is going to sign here at a term most of us are not going to like. |

It seems like term has been the issue with him
If the Sabres go a full 8 years he has to realize he isn't going to get $8 million per
There is still room to increase his and both Karlsson's contracts (plus Connolly if needed) to fit them all.
But the key really is moving Okposo
I'd like to save some cap space because Reinhart and then Dahlin are coming up due which will be large raises - Stripes77
Trade pick 30/31 with Okposo for a 4th. Idc, get rid of him. |

Wpg sun fan survey:
"Moving to the players, Josh Morrissey gets the closest to unanimous support (98%), with backup goalie Laurent Brossoit not far behind (95%).
At the other end of the spectrum, fans have seen enough of defenceman Dmitry Kulikov, 97% of them hoping he never pulls a Jets sweater over his head again.
More surprising, perhaps, is that people have had enough of Jacob Trouba’s halfhearted commitment to the franchise.
A full 75% want Trouba shipped out, suggesting Cheveldayoff swing a deal at this summer’s NHL Draft rather than have Trouba go into the final year of his contract.
And to think 89% tagged Trouba as untouchable just two years ago."
I would do 7oa for Trouba, or Risto and a second. Tough to believe they'd get a better offer |

In the world of how do we make this happen:
We have the Night King, now let's make it feel like Winter is Coming to the teams that have to play in Buffalo. Game of Throne mood music and a slow build to the conquering!
Cheesy - heck yeah!
Better than the crap and nonsense that keeps people in their seats and does nothing to kick off the games - for example, the Jumbotron production where the players start with their faces down and slowly pan up to look at the camera. Who comes up with this crud? |

Duchene is a center...
BUT he's pretty inconsistent, and you should likely only expect 65 ish points per year from him.
He's in Jeff Skinner territory, IMO. |
