he was done coaching hockey, sabres convinced him to come back
this is the tricky part, once you checked out and decided to pursue life w/o coaching hockey, do you have it mentally to come back years later, short term let alone long term - homiedclown
I don't think he'd lose the ability. players will do most of the work anyways. |

oh my, might be second worse hockey firing
behind the panthers leaving their coach in carolina to get a cab - homiedclown
The only thing worse would be "I didn't really get fired. They just kind of ghosted me and then I saw pictures of a new coach with my GM on Facebook" |

I like him. My point was more so it doesn't matter who the coach is if they don't have an NHL competent roster. - Feds91Stammer

Andreas Athanasiou could become a popular source of trade rumors this off-season if Detroit decides to move a forward for some help on the back end.
"They really have a good group of forwards. A lot of talented young forwards," said NHL Network analyst E.J. Hradek. "But they need to fill out their defense. Defense is so important in this game now. Having those young puck-moving defensemen in a league that's such a speed league now, for me, that’s really job one to rebuild and remake that defense. We'll see where it goes." Athanasiou hit the 30-goal plateau in 2018-19, so his trade value may never be higher. |

It does. Just not to the extent that a roster with AHL caliber players can be competitive enough to be a playoff team. |

hmmm...I think those in st. louis might think differently this season |

Especially in the regular season. Playoffs it matters a bit more. |

agreed...but a head coach that makes his team look like a bunch of ahl'ers is just as bad |

it was, I just don't know how much of it you put on Berube. Is it possible the guy before him was so bad that any change was positive? certainly, a lot of coaches available in the NHL circle are mediocre at best and some downright awful. Jumping from awful to mediocre is quite the add.
It's also worth pointing out they made a goaltending switch and got vezina level play from binnington. |

So using Sobotka too much really did get Housley fired |

agree to disagree...ain't wasting my time arguing over a team that is in the wcf after being in last place before, and during the early stages, of a coaching change
