I'll condense the argument:
Recent 7th overall picks:
Kadri
Scheifele
Skinner
Andersson
Provorov
Keller
Dumba
H. Fleury
Nurse
Depending on your point of view, Trouba is at least as good as many of these guys, and is better than some. He turned 25 two months ago, and would balance our d pairs, while allowing us to safely move Risto for much-needed forward help. He is more stable defensively than Risto, and more suited to a partnership with Dahlin than Risto or Montour. His addition, plus the return for Risto, coupled with smart signings and the development of young players means that we'd have a good team. My perfect off-season looks like this
To TBL - Risto, Blues 2021 2nd
To Buf - Callahan, Cirelli
To WPG - 7oa
To But - Trouba
To Dallas - Scandella
To Buf - 5th round pick
Sign: Skinner, Hayes, Dzingel
Skinner-Eichel-Reinhart
Olofsson-Hayes-Dzingel
Cirelli/Mitts-Mitts/Cirelli-Okposo
Sheary-Erod-Callahan
Asplund
Sobotka
Dahlin-Trouba
McCabe-Montour
Pilut-Bogo
Hunwick
Still have next year's 1st and pick #30. I think it would be a decent team - jcragcrumple
Hayes, Skinner, Dzingel and Trouba are all getting paid this summer. Even if you move Risto/Scandella, its unlikely that team is cap compliant
Edit: you're taking on callahan's deal too... |

Everybody's taking pay cuts to go to buffalo. They all want to be there for the unveiling of the second peace bridge. |

I haven't run it through cap friendly.
I figure $8.5 for Skinner, $6 for Hayes, Dzingel ($5?) Callahan $6 - that's 25ish
Money out - $11m from Risto and scandella.
I actually think it approximately works |

Not bad, but I really don't want to give up the 7th OA for a D man. I would rather draft Caufield, i know he is small but I really think he is going to light up the NHL for years... The league is getting smaller and faster.... |

I have been beating the trade Risto drum for a while, but only if we are getting a poop ton in return.
now if we can get (trade or FA sign) a #2 Center and get Skinner Signed, even if it does cost 18-20 mill a year combined, we would then have 2 solid scoring lines, and a thrid tht can score with Mitts centering. that takes a lot of pressure off your goalies and D... keep Risto, his contract is very good

Trouba-7
Skinner-8.5
Dzingel-5
Hayes-6
Callahan-5.8
Risto-5.4
Scandella-4
Sabres have about 29 mil in space before these moves (assuming an upper limit of 83 mil)
It can work...for a year. |

Idk, Reinhart due next year, you could probably bridge Mittelstadt but it makes things really tight leading up to whatever dahlin gets and if you have to make any other adjustments. |

Montour too.
Maybe it squeezes under cap in year 1 but it cripples you long term without making them a contender. |

It's a bastardized version of a quote from a certain grumpy poster who said of Grönborg: "I don't care what he did with a bunch of kids in Sweden. He's a bum." I tweaked it to fit Krueger |
