As for quiet that’s a hard no given how many top teams have cap problems. Add in the e-draft is looming not too far ahead & it’s a certainty IMO.

If you mean there will be a lot of player movement, then I agree. I’m talking specifically RFA’s receiving offer sheets. Lots of guys will get traded/signed to new teams, or go to Europe because they can’t get a deal in the NHL.

the ONLY person i would even think about offering would be Kapanen, and that is strictly because the leafs are handcuffed so hard with their cap, that they could not afford to match at 4 million (right now anyway), and that would only cost a 2nd round pick.

i understand the notion as it's been brought up several times here but is it realistic?

1) why would kapanen sign with a bottom dweller? based on money, he'll only be getting $1m more approximately than what the leafs would offer. if he's going to sign an OS, why not try for a contender. based on the $4m thrown around here, why wouldn't multiple teams be making offers?
2) why wouldn't the leafs match and work the cap to accommodate a $4m hit? they have the summer to be 10% over the cap so it's not like it would be time sensitive.

i get the leafs have cap troubles but offersheeting a $4m guy won't work. they'll match and make other moves to make the cap work imo.

At the end of the day, the liklihood of any player being offer sheeted is slim to none, and more likely they are traded and re-signed or just re-signed in general. The only reason I bring up Kapanen, and why most I think do as well, is because Dubas is so cap-f*cked, its going to be hard to keep any "2nd tier" player while they are committed to the others. If its between a lowball offer from TOR as they are paying their "star" players big money, or getting an offer at 4.2 mill from a different team to play elsewhere in a bigger role, it might not be that hard of a decision for him.

In the end though, its all just shooting the sh*t when it comes to these proposals.

They (leafs) will move Kadri and Zeitsev and let Gardiner walk to make room for Kappy. Marleau will likely not be moveable. They still have more ELC players coming to round out the roster.

Even after Gardiner leaves, they still only had just a tad over 5 mill to sign 3 players. I imagine Dubas makes a few trades to make room for the 3 remaining players he needs to sign.

capfriendly's number for next season includes horton's contract. they have 9m which is tight but moving one or both of zaitsev/kadri should get them close

or marleau has a 'LTIR retirement' and they free up $6m. if lamorello was still around you could almost guarentee that happening

player has to want to accept the deal. if his agent is half decent he'll know the value of endorsements in toronto is likely better than anywhere else, so any offer has to blow him away
