I don't even think it makes sense to Benning, unless he is hinting at a trade down for a defender and another asset. I would rather just take Soderstrom at 10. There are a few forwards I would take over him in a heat beat(Zegras, Boldy, Dach) But I do not see the 3rd tier(which is where the 9th best forward would be) is better than the 2nd tier of defenders.
This article is quite funny. He states one reason not to draft the kid is that as a 17 year old he was only able to put up 4g 7pts as a 17 year old in the SHL.
https://thecanuckway.com/...ecting-victor-soderstrom/
He also points out he is bad defensively because of +/-, but omits the fact that his team was one of the worst this year. - Retinalz
The guy is just a verbal moron, he can’t process his thoughts verbally. When he says once you get to the bottom half of the first round there’s guys there they like maybe someone should tell him we’re picking 10th? |

Develop the prospects that have been drafted. Be patient. The Canucks are not playoff bound for another couple of seasons so there is no rush. - Marwood
But that would mean drafting D .
I already know you will say in later rounds but there are 5 good looking Dmen in the top 20 . Young, big , good skaters , and good hockey IQ despite what the experts here tell you.
I have seen most of the forwards play and I would draft a Dman at 10 and start filling those cupboards.
If Boldy or Zegras does fall to 10 ,then all bets are off, take them. |

Well that’s your opinion and that’s fair. Fortunately teams don’t follow this imaginary “consensus.” The Canucks may very well have Soderstrom at 7 on their list. So drafting at 10 would be a steal. I’ll trust Gradin and Brackett. Personally the forwards all seem like better options in our range but I won’t complain no matter who they draft. There is no possible “Juolevi” situation as far as I can tell - CanuckDon

I am aware there are other rounds and I would draft another D in the second round too.
There will be decent forwards at 10 remaining and good Dmen . I will take the Good over decent |

Unlike Chompers, I don’t care if they take a F or a D at 10, but drafting a D in round one isn’t going to do anything to “fix the D”. Not for several years. |

Don just said it best. Canucks have a team of scouts that see the players of interest play multiple times. They have a list and whoever they take is fine.
I am just saying my preference is D |

I agree, I don’t care, as long as they pick the guy they feel is the most talented highest upside kid. Team needs more pure skill. |

Is what it is. even 4 refs can't catch everything given the current speed of the game.
Looking back on the hand pass he did not have control of the puck in his hand and if you look at it directionally he had no clue where it was going lol. Just fluke it went on to the SJ players stick and he was able to pass to Karlsson for the winner. Sh!t happens. - LordHumungous
I agree, though I do think they really need to look at making several more plays reviewable, much of what's gone on this playoffs is just a bunch of whining |

I actually don't disagree with any of this. However, I feel the need for a forward might slightly outweigh the need for a defenseman and it is my belief that the quality of defense available is the same-ish between 10 and 40.
But, in summary, I whole-heartedly agree with your statement... |

Truthfully I just hope the Canucks want Boldy as I do and he somehow drops to 10. He would be dreamy next to Elias ❤️🎉. Byram is the only exciting dman |

I disagree with this statement. People say that there are only 1 or 2 good dmen in every draft and the rest are all in the same tier. History shows that this is never the case, though it can be hard to pinpoint who the best D will be. What I would like to know(and I am too lazy to investigate the analytics of this) what the % is between forwards and dmen taken in the first round bust out. More forwards bust out as a whole due to more being drafted, but what % of dmen and what % of forwards become busts in the first round? |
