I’d way rather have Edler for two than fat useless “cry baby” Hutton. How in the (frank) can you prefer Hutton? Edler was our best D last year! Also, if we sign Edler for two without trade protection he could return a first. Hutton gets you a 5th if the stars align - CanuckDon
can we say no to both? |

1) There is no way Edler signs for 2 years without a NMC.
2) I don’t think there is anything the Canucks could do in the off season, short of signing Panarin, Karlsson and Myers (and Edler) to make the playoffs next year, and probably the year after. Edler makes them good enough that they think they are playing “meaningful” games, which they aren’t. |

I’m not that familiar with the details of either, but aren’t both those things for life? - 1970vintage

Not anymore. Kids these days don’t know how to have fun.
Speaking of fun (flag away Neemer )
Almond crusted goat cheese with heirloom tomato salad, pickled red onion basil oil - Sauvignon Blanc/Sémillon
Beef carpaccio grainy mustard aioli, fried capers, pickled golden beats - premium Chardonnay
Pistachio crusted salmon, cauliflower mash prosciutto wrapped asparagus - Reserve Pinot Noir
Lobster and crab stuffed NY “carpet bagger” gnocchi, carrot, Brussels, pearl onions and Marchand de Vin sauce - Bordeaux blend
Deconstructed cheesecake, peach-lime-mint syrup - late harvest Riesling. |

if its protecting Edler in expansion or letting him walk, i would help pack his bags and personally drive him to the airport.
If its between getting a draft pick for Hutton or paying him anywhere between 2.8 and 3.5 to anchor the 3rd pairing, Id help him pack his bags and drive him to the airport. |

Of course but who replaces both & at what cost? It’s one thing to say let them walk & another to think other UFA’s will be better. Idc about Hutton but we need to see which other D in the pipeline steps up. |

Rafferty/Brisebois/Sautner/Schenn
take your pick. Canucks ain't winning the cup next year anyway, so who cares. I would rather develop a kid from Utica if he is ready for the jump from the AHL to the NHL than have Hutton make 2.8-3.5 mill all the while playing primarily 3rd pairing. |

i don't do lists/lineups, that's your job. My main point is i dont want to waste a protection slot on a 35 year old, not predict who we are going to protect. |

in a perfect world, a 2 year contract would be accepted and it would put this whole thing to rest |

Let him & walk away. He isn’t in demand & won’t get more than a qualifying amount of $2.4m. |

Add Hughes - Nighthawk
Hughes is immune, he did not play enough games this year to need protection. |
