pretty sure if winnipeg matched they cant trade trouba for a certain period of time and they can go over the cap to get laine and connor signed anyway
but even if they dont think they can afford him they would get more for him than a 1st and a 3rd in any trade - johnnykarate
True cannot trade him but gotta be cap compliant for game 1. |

Talking Trouba here. Forcing the Jets to match guarantees he is traded if they wanna sign Laine & Connor. The point is an OS we can live with & Trouba would sign since no control if the Jets match. They cannot offer as much as we can & keep him. Already talking about if Myers can fit in the cap. - Nighthawk

Would he sign that deal? I doubt it. Think heβs going to want Bo Horvat $. So, would you offer the leafs a 1st and a prospect, or another pick for his RFA rights? - 1970vintage
hes on an ELC right now, and with the TOR cap problems, I am sure they will try and offer him less. |

Trouba at 6/7m
42m divided by 5 is 8.4m for the extrapolated compensation of a 1st/3rd.
Or 5/7.5m - Nighthawk

Who can afford him on an OS in the USA? |
|
|
|
the ONLY person i would even think about offering would be Kapanen, and that is strictly because the leafs are handcuffed so hard with their cap, that they could not afford to match at 4 million (right now anyway), and that would only cost a 2nd round pick. - Codes1087
every offseason we think some team is up against the cap and cant afford a promising young player and every year they wiggle out of it. im sure the leafs would rather send a 2nd rounder with a cap dump to keep kapanen than only get a 2nd for losing him |

summers are long, they could navigate out of it. we see it every year "oh how can the pens keep crosby and malkin and remain competitive" "can the hawks keep the core together?" etc. etc. its been like this for 10 years. trades are made, elc's make the team, and someone ends up on LTIR |

not disagreeing, every year, same time, every fan comes up with these scenarios and they more often than not get sorted out within the organization, but having said all of that, Dubas is in a pretty big pickle.
As is, they have 5.265 mill in free cap space with Marner/Kapanen/Johnsson to sign. Thats not going to be easy at all. |

The Jets GM also volunteered a comment on recent reports that Trouba didn't want to play in Winnipeg or in Canada.
"From the very onset, Jacob didn't have a problem playing in Winnipeg and didn't have a problem playing in Canada," Cheveldayoff said. "So again, now that I can comment, I can at least comment on that." |

VGK Jets & Leafs are all in a big pickle. Iβm thinking Philly will get involved. Maybe AVβs NJD & Carolina. |

It is no secret he only wants to play in the States. Just Google 'Trouba playing in Canada', I guess I should have posted links to the other articles suggesting he doesn't want to play in Canada. |
