Those are really false comparisons. You can kick a puck, you can use your head, who cares if you use your hands to pass it? It would make the game better, having that be illegal is stupid. There are no drawbacks, only positives. And again, you can do it in the defensive zone, so it's not even like it's a new rule.

Until Auston Matthews gets his arm broken juggling the puck while skating into the zone when the defensive player tries to whack the puck with his stick. Then we have the Tanner blog whining about 4th line players being able to use sticks as weapons instead of using their hands like true skill guys, followed by the "Let's Eliminate Sticks" blog.

Yeah lots of guys out there using their head to advance the puck in order to gain a competitive advantage in the NHL

Hey, if hand passes are legal, you should be able to stick check a guy's hands if he's in possession of the puck.

Just the opposite.

Make it a penalty to have the puck touch the palm of your glove. The catch and drop, catch skate and drop, catch make three moves and drop, and bat it out of the air with your palm is illegal. You can use the back of your glove.

The only exception is self defense. (like if a puck is whizzing toward your neck). Even then the back of the glove would be just as good.

I was thinking just get rid of sticks all together. Just throw the puck. I mean why not

Yeah I'm sure the referees that couldn't see a human being smack a puck forward directly in front of the net in an overtime conference final game will have no trouble discerning what is the palm of your glove and what isn't

The game will always be broken until they add an arc around the goal in which goals scored outside of are worth 3.

Jimmy,
You sure are a blogger with the ability to get a "surefire knee jerk reaction" from many!
It is amazing how a simple statement can set so many "expert pundits" off!
I personally feel that a player that is outside of their own defensive zone should not be able to touch the puck with their hands. However, the game could use more offense in it.
The hand pass last night was obvious to the TV cameras and to many of the fans in the arena, but I won't say that 4 officials missed the call. Their positions, players' positions, puck position all have to be weighed in when analyzing the situation.
I am not a Blues nor Sharks fan and agree with the statement of the game should not have ended with that hanging over it.
It was a well fought, well played game throughout. It sucks to have that ending.
In an 82 game season, the good calls and bad calls tend to even out.
A playoff game, no matter what round, should be decided by a missed call on the ice.
Take away offside and coaches' challenges and review only scoring plays for 10 seconds prior to goal. (Not my idea, I have copied it)
Any ways, James thanks for your Coyotes coverage and thoughtful ideas. Not that I agree with everything you may say.

Just review everything, it’s not like we don’t enjoy fetching more beer while we’re waiting for the result? I’d rather the linesmen let a close offside go and worry about it after then to blow it dead and find out it wasn’t offside.

Kick passes are allowed, so if a hand pass, without grabbing and controlling it is allowed, then it's fine by me.

Hey Thanks! I am glad you enjoy it without having to always agree. We need more of that. Not everyone crapping on every idea and yelling TROLL until we're all non-thinking automatons afraid to think outside the lines at all.

I __ hate that every single idea that isn't already established is now thought of as a hot take. We should change from sticks to shovels is a hot take. We should allow hand passes is just a good idea.

Im with you on this topic James. Also....EVERY goal should be reviewed in OT. The NFL reviews every touchdown throughout the season, and playoffs.

Sorry, should have been more clear. Not talking about the blog itself, but these consecutive comments:

I definitely do not care about purists. They are the worst whatever the topic, sport or activity. I don't think integrity and being a purist have anything to do with each other, only purists think that.

It's pretty weird that people think this is a bad idea, it's literally the greatest idea of all time. At the very least, it's worth asking why we don't allow hand passes, and I can't think of a single reason.

And why is allowing hand passes is a good idea? More goals? If higher scoring games is all you're after maybe basketball or lacrosse are more for you. Less stoppages? How many whistles a game are there for hand passes? It's not an epidemic.
