Because you absolutely dont trade Monahan for just a prospect. This guy consistently scores 25-35 goals per year. That is no easy feat in the NHL he has 13 points in 20 playoff games, so vanishing is not what I would call it. I wished 1/2 the team had found another gear for the playoffs but they didnt & there are probably many reasons why. But we were the 2nd best team in the whole fcking NH fcking L last year & people want to blow up the top line. Guess Tampa should be trading kucherov & Stamkos & Point because they got roughly about the same amount of points Gaudreau & Monahan & Lindholm got. Lets get back to the playoffs but the next time Tre pays the price & adds a few additions at the TDL & maybe add some grit we never had as a rental. Monahan for some unproven NHL prospect is insanity! Our window is open now, fck the prospects, we want to win now.

Dude, I get it, I'm not saying you deal Monahan... period. My point was really that if you're dealing with one of DET or NYR, their prime targets are their prospects.

Suppose in Det you could look at Larkin, Anthanasiou or Mantha if you are dealing Mony... New York really has nothing of interest

Kreider++ out of NYR, but really, in dealing with either of those teams, your best bet is to pluck highly thought of prospects. Andersson in particular projects very highly, gives you something very different from Mony for sure if that's what you're hoping to accomplish. Zadina would be a huge complement on the 1st line if you slid Lindholm to C.

I am absolutely not advocating a Mony deal, barring getting back a 1C.

I know & thats the thing, trading Monahan makes no sense unless the team is going to a different direction. But right now we have these guys for 3 & 4 more years on great contracts. We may not have that superstar top centre, not sure how we will ever get one unless heaven forbid, the Flames actually get the first overall just one stinking time, but you know that wont happen in our lifetime.

LOL, true enough. Unless somehow Tre pulls a massive trade off where he lands a top end C and 1st rounder a la Duchene deal with Ott... That one still makes me laugh.

Nuts to trade a 30 goal scorer who disappears down the stretch and is useless in the playoffs!? Plus, what if the return was excellent? It's just a suggestion. The goal is to get good players who can perform when it matters.

Jankowski is nothing more than a mediocre 3-4C. Very expendable. Neal is killing this team's ability to get better by having cap space and flexibility, and doesn't even deserve a spot on our 3rd line. We have to get rid of him. Unfortunately it costs to erase a mistake.

Calgary would be crazy to trade a "warrior" like Hamonic and hold onto a snowflake like Brodie. Just as sure as I thought Brodie was gone last year (much to my chagrin it was Hamilton), the voodoo practitioners will work their spells on Tre ensuring that Brodie stays put and Hamonic will be traded. Then again, why would another team want a smooth skating, undersized "D" that gives away blind passes up the center that has as much gravitas as a Hartman becoming a ref.

Nah, the speculation is always fun. The only thing that worries me is what BT will do in free agency ! His track record with UFAs is pretty bad in recent years. As far as trades, I think Calgary's trade bait (players who are worth something) list is

1. Kylington. Like him but with Valimaki, it's going to be hard for kylington to make the team. I think he was rumoured to part of the deal for Zucker, plus he was buried pretty deep in the lineup down the stretch.
2. Frolik: him and his agent have let it be known they're not happy with his role. The Flames could actually use him as they're thin on RW, especially if they put Lindholm back at centre.
3. Brodie or Hamonic ? Flames have to make room for Andersson to move up but they're still thin on RD.

I personally think they might move Jankowski if they want to shake things up a bit. Jankowski has all the tools but he doesn't bring a intestinal fortitude they lacked in round 1.

I think the only untouchable Flames are Chucky and Gio. I am not lobbying for Johnny and or Mony to be moved but for the right deal I would trade anyone.

I think this team was too good in the regular season to make drastic changes. It's not easy to assemble a team that is good enough to win it all, I think you give the core at least another year.

You may be right but I don't think this team is built to win when it matters.
Super fun team to watch this year for 84 games but this ownership group is not getting any younger and I bet Tree's marching papers are to address the dreadful playoff performances this group has had.
