It's not a blank canvas like that.
The draft dictates wether or not you're even willing to trade the 10th pick. - golfingsince

Do you think that there will be 10 players in the draft that will be as good or better than him? |

1 question...will 10oa ever likely be better than getting a proven player? Ty |

A big draft day trade will be a huge buzz.
Question is in what form it takes. |

Not necessarily.
But we still can't afford to take that risk at this point.
The 10th oa could be another Boesser (who I wouldn't trade for Willy)

It’s a very low risk trade imo.
Cost certainty & he gets prime time ice.
It’s not a stand alone shortcut til more pieces are added. Upside or downside depends on your view is if Willy helps us make the PO’s |

That’s not really the point. His contract devalues him. We need a young stud on an entry level contract. Do I think there will be 10 players better than him selected in the first round? Probably |

Well, we've picked Juolevi and JV with higher draft picks. Just saying.
I haven't seen enough of the draft eligible players to have a draft board, but if I did there would come a point where maybe I had 6-7 maybe 8 players that if they fell to that spot I'd keep the pick.
Risk vs reward.
If Nylander were in this draft I think he'd be chosen well before 10th, but you don't get the rookie deal. |

I agree with both of these points, but if a stud D isn't available and you're meh on a forward that's when a deal becomes possible. |

Well said. I’ll add we can take on his 7m & still have cap control. |

A lot hinges on who falls to 10th. We are meh on who we can choose make the call to Dubas. |

What's a 22 year old 20 G 60 pt winger worth paying?
Pasta, Tarasenko, Forsberg, Draisaitl, Gaudeau put up comparable numbers and signed between 6 and 8.5. That also doesn't take the cap rising each year into consideration.
Whether you like Will Ny (props to you NH) or not his salary is pretty in line with other wingers who showed they could produce in the top 6.
People better get used to the idea that Boeser is going to be signed for 7.5-8. |

Harman Dayal has a really good piece on the athletic breaking down what he thinks it will be. He takes cap rising, comparable's and whether he thinks the Canucks would be willing to have Brock sit out for half the year to save a couple 100K into consideration and figures it's between 7.4-76.

Part of the risk is what the 10oa could turn into.
The other part of the risk is, given his poor performance this year, if he is indeed worth his salary.
For a rebuilding team like Vancouver, we can't afford to take those risks for those pieces.

I think he played better than his 27 points suggest, especially during his 2nd half of the season.
During the playoffs, Kadri’s suspension forced him to take on a different role.
Aside from that, didn’t his point totals eclipse Jake’s career high?

Not at all, just saying that's a 6oa pick. No guarantees we get anything better. Juolevi at 5th overall has yet to play an NHL game.
The kid just turned 23, it's not like he's 26.
Again, do you see anything surefire that's guaranteed to be there at 10oa ? If not, then why not consider it?
It's one pick, maybe a larger deal gets you a later one back. |

You'd have to be pretty far removed from reality to think there is still a debate.

One could make the argument that the Canucks won when you factor in their contracts. It’s hard to argue. I’m a Jake hater FYI |
