I love the Bean, it was in reference to chiefs trying to tell me his daughter was hot awhile back.

I believe it, everybody keeps repeating the same thing "Hughes is a franchise center, Shero knows him well, friends with Hall, blah bah blah"

that doesn't change the fact that Kakko kicks ass

- jimbro83

But so does Hughes. I think our fandom of what we have perceived to be our pick has given the fanbase rose colored glasses in the comparison. I truly believe that the only difference between the two is size and position. They both have mitts, they both have speed, they both play the game perfectly for their attributes. And when it's all said and done, I'd rather have the elite center than the elite winger.

Not to mention that we might already have an elite winger in Kravs

"Bean Dip" is my actual nickname. Pretty much everyone calls me it. Has nothing to do with Mr. Bean, I'm just messing around.

The thing that worries me about Hughes is his size and frame. Slightly taller than Gudreau but similar frame and Gudreau was able to be shut down in the playoffs pretty easily when the physical stuff increased. I could care less if he scores 100 points in the regular season if he gets shut down in the playoffs. I want Kakko, won’t be upset if we get Hughes but I would consider trading the pick

This logic is so flawed. Brad Marchand has a similar frame as Gaudreau. Would you say Marchand has been shut down in the playoffs?

Yeah, Johnny Hockey missing 4 breakaways and 2 short side shots with open net that series was all about how tall he is. But Mike Rupp said his size hurt him, so let's go with that narrative.

I understand wanting someone who is bigger, stronger, etc. But I don't equate a lack of those attributes for reason of poor play. Rocco Grimaldi, the shortest guy in the whole league, was one of the best players for his team in the playoffs!

The debate is moot though. Both players, Kakko and Hughes, will be great for their teams. There shouldn't be such sharp opinions on the topic.

Marchand much more willing to play a physical game than Gudreau. Marchand can mix it up a bit and doesn’t mind the rough stuff, Gudreau hates it. They don’t call the games the same way in the regular season as they do the playoffs.

Regular season I agree to an extent, playoffs are a completely different animal.

So then you don't like Hughes' style? That's not what you said.

We haven't seen how Hughes plays. How can you make a blanket assessment that Hughes won't be good in the playoffs because of his style? Nothing he's done to date has proved he won't be a competitor in the playoffs.

I’m with you on that. But this year look at guys like Schwartz, Pastrnak, Krejci, not the biggest guys by any means and they’re all doing pretty well. Couture isn’t the biggest or flashy and he’s the Conn Smythe favorite atm

Playoffs it’s more will and compete then anything, but size is more relevant during them. I’ve beat that drum forever here (Bickell lol), it’s tighter checking and your fighting for every inch of ice basically

I think teams like to button up that stuff in the off season. Focus on the task at hand: winning games!

I'm selfishly pulling for the Blues. I have family in STL that are HUGE Bruins fans. Hope the little ones get to experience a cup finals like that. They're Blues season ticket holders too

Will JD bring in some muscle for the Rangers. Whether it be in St. Louis, or Columbus, JD always had some muscle on his team every single season to keep the other teams honest.

I have to think that their opponent being Great Britain had a little to do with trying that play.

Welcome!!!
Interesting question.
I wonder if more minutes for Lemeiux, along with Smith and Hayek (I think he’s the physical one) fills that need. Quite possibly not, but it’s an in-house solution.

I brought up Ferland before, with surprisingly no response from anyone like “no you’re dumb” lol, for some added machoness. He’s a UFA, and I don’t think he’d get anymore then 4 a year. But hes a tough sob. Not the most skilled guy
