Would you take on a similar deal for a late 1st? Nope.
- Lunaion

Certain teams would want. Doesnt matter what I would want. 4 years left, 6 million cap, with actual money due of 6/6/4/4. If a team wants to wait until after the first, his bonus is paid. He either has a 3 million or 5 million bonus. Probably would only have to include a 2nd in that cash.

We need a GM to be creative.

Why do you want EK you can see his body is decreasing and his play will decline in 3 years and your stuck with a guy making 11 million a year when his best days are behind him that’s how you (frank) your franchise up
- gerbe75pts

One series doesnt mean he is decreasing. He has been banged up all year. He is fine.

I asked if you would. We're one of the worst teams in the NHL and have some cap flexibility. Take Lucic + 37th for future consideration?

I wouldn’t say he had help by outstanding forwards .. if he played with Tyler Johnson Kucherov and maybe miller( I hate) I might agree
- gerbe75pts

I wouldn’t be shocked if his numbers took a jump here, i just wouldn’t say they would for certain
If he did start doing really well,
teams could focus on him here a lot more than when he was on Tampa

No we don't have cap flexibility. We have Okposo, bogosian and scandella as crap contracts. If we didnt have those 3 players I would.

Exactly no isnt enough. There are many factors. The lucic contract for one, no idea how ite structured. 2nd we arent a budget team

A team would take a late first and Okposo for a 4th or 5th.

Perfect. We already have Okposo and 31. It's as if we already made that type of trade. We should be happy, right?

All this Tampa talk is foolish, especially when people keep mentioning we need to take Callahan back in any deal. Botterill will in no way help another team, his job is to get he best deal for the Sabres. We have enough boat anchor contracts.
- SABRES 89

1 year (of Callahan) is absolutely not a “boat anchor” contract

That would be true if he had multiple years left,
but that’s just not the case

It would be almost impossible for Botts to turn us into a Cup Contender for NEXT year...
so if taking ONE year of Cally gets us a guy that can help for the next 5+ years...
then it’s a no brainer to do that

You couldn’t be more wrong here sir

What are u gonna do with Callahan’s 5.8mil?
Sign Hayes???
Or
we could acquire a player that can help us the next 5years (or more)...
and then still have the leftover Cap $$$ after this season when Cally’s deal expires

Again... it’s a no brainer

Why EK is a bad idea

But for all we know, Karlsson’s offencse has already declined.

For example, his career shooting percentage is 6.4. Well, Karlsson’s shooting percentage has been below that in two of the last three seasons, and it was only 6.5 percent in the 2015-16 season. You might play the “bad puck luck card,” but it’s hard to discount the fact that Karlsson’s season shooting percentage has been 7.1 or better six times.

It’s easy to be “wowed” by Karlsson’s aforementioned 59.3% Corsi For percentage, but let’s call that a short sample size. His career CF% is 53.4, but guess what? It was below that number in his final four seasons with the Ottawa Senators.

Make no mistake, Karlsson is still a top blueliner and can be the final piece in a team’s Stanley Cup quest. But the stats show that Karlsson has already began declining on offence, and teams should be weary of giving him a maximum contract worth $85-plus million.

Yes you sign a player that can help, not keep throwing money and time away.

Is the solution is to go out and spend right to the cap this offseason on any and all available players that will “help” for next year?

Don't have to spend to the cap, just find the right player.

If the goal is just to find the right player and taking on one year of a poopty contract facilitates it, then what’s the problem? If you don’t have to spend to the cap and you are going to have extra space anyways, then what’s the problem? Bury the guy in the ahl for all I care. I fail to understand your logic here.

No matter who we signed with that extra 6mil,
we aren’t competing this year for the Cup
So it makes sense to acquire someone who can help ya in the future
