See, I think this is normal. I don't consider myself a tankist. - golfingsince
I’m over the sell everything that isn’t nailed down stage. Now things are finally improving, if slowly, now I just want him (Benning) to stay the course. If he reaches to try and be next year’s Hurricanes I’ll puke.
No, Tankists recognize that the team is already bad, and want them to embrace what they are and do their best to improve their future by adding additional draft picks and/or prospects so that as the team naturally improves it has a lot of players to choose from. - 1970vintage
I, too, would like to identify myself with this group.
If you could explain how the team could get better but then worse the year after getting better?
I look at Tampa Bay and they traded for Miller and McDonaugh and traded away prospects, players picks in
Vladislav Namestnikov
Libor Hajek
Brett Howden
2018 1st round pick
2019 conditional 2nd round pick
Somehow they still managed to get better the year after, one of the best seasons in league history. Utter failure in the playoffs but still. They didn't get worse by giving up futures.
STL blues traded for O'Reilly. Vladimir Sobotka
Patrik Berglund
Tage Thompson
2019 1st round pick
2021 2nd round pick
Players, picks, prospect and somehow they got better this year and are most likely going to the SCF.
I'm just using these as random examples of teams that added top quality players to improve their teams.

Tear down, rebuild.
The rebuild stage has begun, just don't start bringing in old wood.
What do you think of my Nylander proposal. If you don't like the player, I get it. - golfingsince
I think he is talented but also plays with really good players. I'm not sure if he's the guy that makes his line mates better. And he is Canuck soft in the playoffs. So no.
I still like you, though.

These teams were already good. The Canucks would essentially be voiding their prospect pipeline to acquire Willie. Then they would have nothing else to add, hence they could potentially improve (on last year) and then fail to take the next step, because that’s it, they already blew their load.

I was okay with him getting fired but was initially a big fan(Just like 90%+ of this fanbase was)
But unlike the beta Benning fans, I refuse to keep lowering the bar and keeping giving Elmer a pat on the head for mediocrity.
I swear I think some fans/media just feel bad for him because of his innocent lost puppy persona. - Nucker101
I used to like Gillis for awhile. Then wanted him gone. I started to hate him after I was forced to play hockey with him. He is a d!ck and awful at puck 🤮

I think you are clearly on a very different level on how much it would cost to acquire a 60 point forward on a team with a terrible cap situation.
Mark Stone cost a very good prospect, a plug and a 2020 2nd and he's a heck of a lot better than Nylander.
Kevin Hayes cost a late mid 1st, a young bottom 6 players and a 4th.

Agree & not pilfering a team when we have the cap to do it is a waste.

Clearly it’s a lot more than what you expect.
Would you trade Boeser for the 9th or 11th pick this year?

Nobody is suggesting voiding their prospect system to acquire Willy. We're talking about one draft pick, which has been wasted by every regime that's been here.
Our biggest & maybe only advantage is our cap. Why not use it? Why wait? We don’t have to be a ceiling team & can plan for raises to Boeser EP & Hughes easy enough.
We have this offseason & the entire following year before the e-draft.

But that’s not what it would really cost. I’d love to pay $35k for a new Tesla model 3, but that’s not going to happen.
Let's not pretend the situations are the same. - golfingsince
It's pretty easy to look at going rates and see comparable trades around the league. It's not hard to see what the value is for a player like William Nylander.
Toronto isn't going to trade a player like Nylander and take away from a team without getting something that can help them out now. They aren't a team interested in a lot of futures.
