I think it was Vic carucci actually who said Zay might not make the team. It was definitely someone at the BN. I was surprised as well |

He didn't really rush it though. He had until the roster bonus was due. - buffalofan19
Depends on your definition of "rush".
Trade made just before midnight on 6/30.
$7.5m Bonus due on 7/1.
I guess if you define 24 hours as still having plenty of time, well then it was not rushed. |

We’ve known Trouba was a top-end 5-on-5 point producer for years — he’s placed inside the top 20 for points per minute among defencemen at 5-on-5 in each of his past three seasons — but prime-time power-play minutes have been tough to come by. In a league where point production equals ability plus opportunity, Trouba finally enjoyed the best of both worlds in 2018-19. With 82 healthy games and career-high power-play minutes, Trouba obliterated his previous career high of 33 points, reaching the 50-point plateau for the first time.
Suffice to say, if Winnipeg decides to trade Trouba, his value will be at an all-time high. |

A team with Jack Eichel, ROR, E.Kane, and Sam Reinhart finished 31st in the league. True story. - Pegullaville

I almost feel like we had a similar team to this.
Did they finish with 62 points? I can’t seem to recall |

Trouba - 50 points and 112 hits +8
Risto - 43 points and 235 hits - 41
Similar players. No way Trouba is a significant upgrade to Risto.
Dahlin> Trouba
Montour> Trouba
Risto playing in the correct role, 2nd pairing, makes the team better.

ROR was NOT the reason that the Blues reached the finals. He played well and was a good piece to help get the Blues over.
The Sabres did not lose nor win and the Blues did not win or lose the trade. They were a piece away and I would argue the piece was Binnington. And again, Berube had a "system" for the players.

Last night was the typical O’Reilly I saw for three years.
Was a ghost all series and then when San Jose was broken and missing three of their best players O’Reilly piles up the points.
He did the same thing here.
Honest question-
What was ROR most memorable goal of play or even game as a Sabre?
Does he have one? |

Agreed - nice post.
O'Reilly was a piece that helped out an already good team to make it to the finals.
Better goaltending. Definiely NOT ROR's ding. Helpful, yes. Impactful, nope. |

OT goal while falling on his back ? That was a great goal. However, I've rarely seen a Sabre so good at winning puck battles and whacking down attempted passes, not to mention his great faceoff skills. All of that was missed this year in Buffalo. |

He’s a really good player.
I don’t think he was really good for us. I thought he was just good. And for 7.5 mil he needed to do more offensively. I know his counting stats were fine but he did not pose a threat 5 on 5 for a majority of the time he was here
Defensively he’s always been great |

I'd rather have a defensively reliable partner for Dahlin as a Dman to acquire, and rather than a defensive liability at $6.5/$7.0m as a Dman.
Hell no.
Collin Miller please. |

I knew what you meant, so I fixed it for you.
I mean $5.2m on TOI controlled, sheltered, partner optimized 3rd pair Dman is a but rich for me. |

1st year here, toe drag from the LW to between the circles for game winner late in 3rd , maybe OT.
I wanted him as Captain then.
Steadily got worse.

Agree to disagree.
Get rid of Risto and wait for him to play on a different team in the Finals next year. That way, everyone can be disgusted and you can call for Botts' head.
Good times. |
