the return will be likely be 4-5 good pieces, but not great pieces.

just for fun, it would be interesting (and complicated/unlikely) if the leafs could include marleau in the deal.

What if a future Doughty is added? Old Doughty and future Doughty for current Doughty? Or does draft pick Doughty need to even it out? A baker's Doughty?

All Doughty trades to the Leafs and the Oilers would put both teams into cap troubles as they don't have the cap space unless they are able to rid themselves of #11 mil per. What could the Leafs offer a rebuilding Kings. The Leafs would have to trade one of Tavares, Matthews or Marner. If they kept all 3 and Doughty at $11 mil they would have 4 players eating $45 mil per. The Oilers have too many useless contracts that the Kings wouldn't want in return for Doughty.

We got suckered into clicking and posting to say it. You're right though, they would have to be money in / money out deals. LA isn't going to get a Kings ransom either. Star player trades rarely do. It'll be 1-2 years firsts from a contender, junk money back, and a pocket full of magic beans.

If the Kings are going to move Doughty it has to include young assets and the only way I see the King's picking up leftover pieces is if the other team takes on 1/2 of the salary and provide quality draft picks.

I don't see how we would make it work.. It would be great if there was no salary cap..

We would have to shed like $10-11M and the Kings are also not flush with cap space.

You've missed the most important part though. EK reported this, so it's not happening.

DOUGHTY and the LEAFS....NO CHANCE IN HELL.

There is ZERO chance the Leafs bring in Doughty. 8 year contract starts this upcoming season (8 years/$88 Million = AVG CAP PER is $11 Million)

Even if they to take Nylander and his contract, and eat 25% of his salary....the Leafs wont do it, nor should they. Doughty is 31 and his 8 year deal, will take him to 39. Doughty has lost a step in his game, and not worth $11 Mill Per....not to mention, the Leafs have their own internal contracts they need to manage.

Agreed, but our supposed strength is our forward group.

Kadri is too good to be 3rd line centre. Nylander's a winger. This trade improves our defence and leaves gaps that can be filled internally or by signing a cheap bottom 6 replacement.
