The leafs are already losing offensive weapons, so they need defense to make up for this. More importantly, they are losing a defensemen this year. So yes I can have it both ways.... 2018-2019 leafs were alot closer to making the cup with this current roster. 2019-2020 leafs will have more holes to fill and less offensive depth.

The need to seriously consider what it would take to get Doughty. It immediately shores up and makes them have a legit defence core. He is a 2 time champion vet who can work with the marlies d men coming up. A righty. It would totally balance out the club IMO.

Yeah that's what Toronto needs.

With the Leafs cap situation it simply would not work unless it's Matthews.

Matthews for Doughty and Kings 1st rounder. Maybe a centre prospect.

Obviously leaf fans would female dog and whine but it’s like you give up one player for a Dman you desperately need, a top 5 pick which could be Cozens, Dach, Turcotte....pick one. And probably a prospect like JAD, Kupari, or Akil Thomas. Obviously they’d probably choose Kupari.

If Kadri scores 30, and Doughty 15, they really only lose 15, but with better defence they probably gain a lot in the long run.

LA gets a stud first line centre, who was born in the area and grew up in the south. They can market the poop out of him as there really hasn't been a superstar from down there until him, and they can build their team around him. I really think this would have to be considered b y both clubs.

Works for cap reasons better than Marner + Zaitsev. For the aforementioned except id trade out Kupari for JAD in a Marner trade.

I had to trade brown and Kadri out to make cap space and was still -300k 23 man roster with the Marner trade. With the Mathews trade all I had to do was trade out brown.

I also had johnsson and Kapanen at 3.5M maybe it’ll be closer to 3 each idk

They think they can acquire a #1 defensemen, top 10 in the league, who is in his prime for garbage.

Doughty for Marner (makes sense from a cap perspective and a player perspective).

Doughty + 3rd for Nylander, Sandin, 2nd, and throw in Khadri (Isn't worth much) to make the Cap work.

It makes the most sense for sure. I would also say that I was less than pleased to see Matthews get more than JT. Set the standard that JT is the highest player on the team, period.

I don't hate the leafs. Just most of their fans.

It's all speculation. The leafs made it to game 7 against the Bruins while missing an important piece. Columbus made it to game 6 and Carolina couldn't even win a single game.

The leafs were a lot closer to making it to the SCF than it looks. The problem is that the cap is here to tear down the team. Not hating, just stating facts.

Think about this:

Let's say he's a #2 center..... But he's been suspended 2 straight years during the playoffs (value gets reduced). Leafs up against the salary cap and need to move players (value gets reduced even more). See my point? Even if he's a #2 center, his value is going to be lower than normal. Now this is all speculation, but this is what I've seen from the Hawks poop show. It's taken them 3 years to finally get back onto their feet after the cap came.

Tavares signing was a mistake. Contract is overwhelming the Leafs capacity to resign some of their young players. Does it really make any sense to add another $10m mature player. This team is about to get older very quickly if they continue to sign or deal for older players.

Go take a look at the cap. The Leafs cannot sign everyone.....

8 million to sign 4 forwards and 3 defensemen. Which includes players like Marner (10M), Kap (4-6M), and Johnsson (?). You then need to sign 3 defensemen.
