Lucic's contract reminds me of bad Ken Holland contracts from the Red Wings (SEE: Justin Abdkelkader, DeKeyser, Neilson). Marginal to bad players being paid WAY more than their current worth. So bad, they can't be dealt. Only hope is to buy out at least one of them in June. I'd have to say Abdelkader's is probably the worst for us.
Just to warn you.... Holland WAY overvalues his favorite mediocre/useless veterans and that is the main reason he made such a mess in Detroit that Yzerman now has to clean up. Also, Holland has a habit of leaving good prospect down in the AHL too long and delaying their development because he has a love affair with veterans at the expense of the team's future. |

Moving Lucic is a salary dmp move is the same as M Sabres MUST DO with Kyle Okposo. Millions sitting wasting dollars on teams that seem to not be able to get out of their own way one way or another. Hopefully both can move on this year as the McDavid-Eichel final will never come to fruition. |

I'm still calling Lucic to Vancouver this off-season. I don't think it would be a good move by Van, but I think it is going to happen. Whether it is adding a sweetener with Lucic, and bringing Eriksson back; or whether it's adding more sweet and taking Sutter plus other garbage back, I can just see Vancouver happening. |

“The Edmonton Oilers or the Calgary Flames? It sounds if it’s down to a Battle of Alberta for the services of undrafted Swedish free agent forward Joakim Nygård. A decision is expected soon.”
Don’t know too much about him besides he is a left handed forward who can score and lots of talk about his speed |

I'd be happy if they could add guys like that. Speed and being capable of capitalizing in other leagues is a valuable quality to have in your bottom-6 guys. |

He was second in goal scoring in Sweden.....I wouldn’t be shocked if he picked the Flames over the Oilers but perhaps his fellow Swedes can put in a good word

Teams usually pick the Flames over us and I don't blame them. |

Clearer path to regular time in the NHL in Edmonton. Could be a swaying point. That's why schultz chose Edm. |

That and the McDavid factor. Flames do have 5 Swedes already, probably means nothing unless he’s friends with 1. |

McDavid factor may be diminishing. Hasnt worked out for Lucic, Reider, or any other FA they have attempted to plug along with him. They all wind up being 3rd or 4th line guys who just didnt work. Cagguila, Reider, Rattie.... |

DJ Smith to ott. 1 less name to prevent a same old name coaching in Oil town next year. Not that I wanted him, but anything but the same old cycle. |

While he is another coaching carousel name, he's at least known for getting the absolute most out of less-skilled rosters through the regular season. Some of the rosters he had in Arizona were miles worse than ours now. |

Lucic came in to play with McDavid but got outplayed by Maroon... Reider was brought in to play with Draisaitl because Nuge started the year with McDavid but then panic set in as the season started slipping away so they put Draisaitl back on Mcdavids wing.... Cagguila is a 3rd line forward that can fill in for short stints on the upper 2 lines.... Rattie is not a NHL player period. |

Is that an attempt to disprove his point? |

Having Klefbom might go in our favour in pursuing Nygard as they played together for Farjestad for a couple years and are in the same age range. We also offer a more immediate opportunity at top-6 minutes with skilled Cs. On the other hand, Calgary is a mostly stable organization that showed really well last year and has it's own collection of Swedes.
Not that I'll expect much either way, but it would be nice to have another token to enter into the European UFA lotto. Maybe we'll get lucky this time. |

The only one you can even argue was brought in to play with McDavid is Lucic. |

The amount of noise around it being Tippett makes it seem like it. I just wish something could be worked out with Nelson to at least get him here as an associate coach who could potentially take over from Tippett at some point. |

I think the majority (myself included) would have been happy with Nelson behind the bench....Tippett in a lot of ways is Hitch 2.0....McDavid, Drai, Nuge and Nurse all with career highs tho so you can’t say Hitch limited their offence....regardless I would have went with a younger guy

If the latest rumours are true we can take Zucker off the list of potential top 6 wingers since he might be going to the Pens
