He's handsome too
#Handsome - jimbro83
He looks like a dehydrated clown mask.
Wonder how this affects what Hayes signs for. Hayes is a little better and would probably fetch $7M on the open market but I can't see him getting too much more unless some idiot GM really covets him and overpays big time. |

I think if the Rangers gave Hayes same exact contract as Nelson I'd be happy
but that's it, not a penny more |

There'll be too much competition on the UFA market to get him at that price. Nelson took a slight discount to stay where he's comfortable. Maybe if the Rangers trade a late round pick or something for his UFA rights they can get him locked up a little cheaper but if he goes to July 1st he's gonna get top dollar. |

Brady Skjei with a goal in Team USA's 4-3 loss to Russia. Per Chris Peters, Skjei's skating stood out in the tournament on the bigger ice surface. Jack Hughes with two assists and was on the ice as the extra attacker when the US was trying to tie the game. |

I’m done with Hayes. We have more young guys than we know what to do with and Hayes disappears in the playoffs. 4 goals in 40 games. I say let the young guys play and see what Chytil/Andersson/Howden can do. |

you know what though, unless like Chiefs suggested, Rangers trading for his rights, if Rangers brought back Hayes it would probably be like July 2nd after not succeeding in getting Panarin
Panarin is still the goal I believe |

Surprised, thought Lee would be 1st - mdw7413
Lee has to be a real tough negotiation. On one hand, he's a great leader that's well liked and has had a couple seasons of good production with one exceptional outlier. On the other hand, he's going to be trying to get paid like a 40 goal scorer and, being objective, he's not young, slow as dirt, and isn't what you expect when you hear "40 goal scorer". There's a lot of risk with his deal and they can't overpay him.
Nelson is a center and a better all-around player, plus he was Trotz's favorite player. I honestly believe that was an easier deal to hammer out than Lee's is. Lee's agent, Neil Sheehy, has reportedly spent an oddly-significant amount of time around the Islanders this year so that plus the fact that a deal hasn't been completed yet leads me to believe that it's not so simple. |

UFA and all season it's been reported that Lee was the most likely to re-sign out of all the UFA's. I have no reason to believe otherwise, so yeah I'm very confident he'll be back. I don't think it would hold a candle to Tavares, but it would be a bad look losing your captain in two consecutive years
I was worried that they'd pay him over $7M, but with Nelson getting less than expected I'm confident that they (hopefully) pay Lee a fair but reasonable amount. I'd be real happy at 6.5x6 |

Panarin should be the top priority, star player that only costs cash and cap space. Have to have a Plan B though if he signs somewhere else. Hayes isn't it. Next priority should be to get top pair defenseman to put next to Skjei.
Our defense was horrific last season, that has to improve. Trouba, Savard, etc. should be the way to go. Can't have young guys playing top pair minutes like last season ( see Neil Pionk ).
Defense will improve too as soon as we get rid of Lindy Ruff! |
