We appear to have a different measuring stick. How do you expect him to make those acquisitions? - MJL
Well, I really just want the RD that would fit on our top pair. I am hoping he signs/trades for a center on a contract of 2-3 years at budget or moderate price tag. I wouldn’t bother with the winger unless all the options at center fall thru. We have quality prospects coming.
So 2 new veteran players. The combined salary target depends on the signing of our RFAs and probably an UFA goalie. He has the cap room to get at least my RD without being tight as long as the RFA signings are decent. Those shoes will hopefully start dropping before the draft.

Ask yourself one simple question. If the Flyers had a good season last year and made the playoffs, would Hextall still be the GM? It's not about a passion to defend Hextall. It's about I don't believe there is anything he needs to regret. He got screwed in my opinion. - MJL
I know you feel that way and there is a case that he did. The other reality is he most likely has regrets. He was so blind sided by it all, that is one of his regrets, not knowing how much rope he really had |

That doesn't answer the question. What does a top pair RH defenseman cost to acquire? What top pairing RH defenseman is available in free agency? |

The statement of "the other reality is he most likely has regrets" doesn't make much sense. That's grasping at straws.
I think the firing may have come as a surprise but I don't think the news of upper management being dissatisfied about the current state of the team was a new revelation. There were probably multiple conversations over a period of time about it. Reports are that Hextall was unwilling to deviate from his plan which seems to indicate that he was asked to.

1. That depends on the target. A fair market cost is worth it to me to improve our defense.
2. Obviously, Erik Karlsson. With UFAs at least we don’t have to argue about the assets we give up. Do we really want him on an east contender like Tampa Bay? Or on a division rival like the Rangers? Maybe he re-signs with the Sharks, IDK. I’m interested though.

I think the devils should make a play on him. |

Exactly. There is one UFA defenseman that fits your criteria! One and he's going to cost a ton. The Flyers should pass.

The cost doesn’t bother me. I would only pass if we secure a great fit via trade or EK stays in the western conference.
It’s a highly competitive field of teams in the EC. The parity is real, and it’s going to be a fight to make the playoffs if we don’t upgrade. If we flop again....well...say goodbye to the current plan and say hello to blow-it-up full rebuild crazy impatience gone wild plan. |

Yeah, I thought Fletcher got fair market value at the trade and still think that. Got Hartman (former 1st rd pk w/3rd line upside) plus a 4th round pick. I did think it would be a 3rd rd pk, but Nashville blew it. - NC Flyers Fan
What is to be said to the masses that Wayne train deserved a 7x6, 3x6, 4x9 contract? There were tons of people who thought he deserved any of those three on this site.
I can tell you this though, not a soul will admit to that, just like there hasn't been nary a soul admit that they were happy with going into the season with Coots, Patrick, Voroybev and Laughton down the middle. |

It bothers me greatly. There is no way they should get into a 7 year 10+M contract with Karlsson. The Flyers aren't anywhere near a full blow it up full rebuild situation.

I don’t want that part either. I am really rooting for Fletcher this offseason and for success next season. It kind of feels like it could get ugly fast if next season falls flat. |

Although it made sense to get a return for him and Fletcher did a good job of it, I will gladly admit that I would have been happy with a 3 or 4 year deal for Simmonds. I wouldn’t have wanted to re-sign Raffl if Fletcher had done that, and there would be more talk of trading Voracek if that had happened. Rumor was Simmonds wanted a longer deal. I firmly believe he will rebound. Tough timing for him IMO.

It's true. Hextall did get screwed and it really grinds me that we won't get to see the penultimate result of his plan.
Personally, I think he erred in not blowing up the core of the team at the start. May have bought him some more time due to lowered expectations and growing excitement.
But his overall strategy of team building was sound and management knew what they were getting. They got scared. Plain and simple. - StepfordSam

I’m still floored that laczsynski decided to go back to school. Who is giving this kid direction? Highly skeptical that he’ll sign with us |

Fire Laviolette, replace with Berube. Laviolette goes to SCF
Fire Berube, replace with Hakstol. Berube goes to SCF.
The only constant is the Flyers are still a dumpster fire. - PLindbergh31
I cant speak about laviolette as i dont remember much. But your comment on Berube is laughable. You make it sound like he got fired and went straight to the finals with his next team. He spent a few years as an assistant before taking over a strong Blues team that was underpreforming |

Karlsson would be a good pickup as long as hes healthier than this season. It also allows ghost to be used as a piece to improve the team elsewhere |

Too much. I know we've talked about this before but I refuse to give up Myers sanheim provy or our pick this year for a vet. I'd like to see ghost get another year unless he lands you a premiere guy (but why would he after this season?).
I'd take stralman and a 2c who can move to wing with age. Brock got 6x6. I'd see if hayes would take 5x5-5.5 |
