Sharks at at a crossroads. Do you tweak and keep going? At some point they'll need to rebuild. |

Karlsson wants to be The Man. All free agents are going to the Rangers. Oilers have no Cap space so signing Nyquist makes perfect sense since Holland is the GM. - gergeswillems
any team with Karlsson as "the man" will never win anything.
He's like the defense version of Phil Kessel. |

Isles fans are so petty. It's so very rare that you see a player be so loyal to their childhood team. Most players these days are all about the money, and you see a character guy go sign with childhood team, displaying that the love of the game still means something to him.
It's very rare and refreshing you see acts of loyalty like this anymore. i think it's very clear that Tavares is one of the classiest, most loyal players in the game today.
And it's clear that his loyalty and love really brought new life to him, after leaving an organization that screwed him over and took advantage of his loyalty for so long. |

So who would you swap Kessel out for (assuming you're talking about his Toronto tenure) to make them win the cup? Didn't realize that team was so close...damn |

The Sharks remind me of the 2015/16 Blue Jays. Good team but with an aging core and teetering on the edge of a rebuild. Good enough to make a deep run but not deep enough to go all the way! |

Your statement about a team where Kessel is "the man" never being able to win a cup. The only team that fits the bill is the leafs when he was there. Wasn't the man in Boston or Pittsburgh. So I'm just wondering what "the man" you'd put in his place to win a cup... based on what you said, you should have someone in mind. |

It's more just that calling out Karlsson and Kessel for not being able to win anything on their own...well, they were both parts of pretty bad teams. Not their fault that they couldn't win it. Difference between being the man and the only man |

So, to translate from whatever language you're speaking - you're saying that I'm insinuating that another player in Kessel's place, would have won a cup with the Leafs?
No. that's not what i'm saying. I'm saying any team with him as "the man" is not going to win a cup. he wasn't going to win a cup in Toronto because he was the Leafs' best player. he wasn't capable of doing it himself. If you're going to win a cup, you've got to be built around a better player than Kessel.
If Kessel was going to win a cup, he needed better players around him. In fact, better than himself.
To try and put this in one syllable words so you might understand - If Phil Kessel is your best player, no cup for you. |

It's not about "on your own". I'll give you 3 Kessels and 2 Karlssons, an entire line.
still no cup for you. |

So you'd take Maltby, Draper and McCarty over Kessel and Karlsson? 12 Cups to 2. Mike Keane must've been a better hockey player than Marcel Dionne. He never won a Cup. |

I knew they started cutting back on education down there, but didn't expect to see the impact so soon. You're generalizing a player's impact based on extremely poor examples. Kessel could have easily won the Conn Smythe on one of those cup runs. Karlsson is a two time Norris winner. You're of the same ilk that says Thornton is a loser because he hasn't won a cup yet. There's plenty of Hall of Famers out there without championship rings. |
