Beagle Roussel and Schaller all came at the request of the coach also.
Benning tried to fill gaps. He has replaced the bottom forwards with players that have had success with other teams (cheap signings) and is building the core with drafting mostly. - VANTEL

Spending $4 million on a 4th line player for a team floating around the bottom of the standings and years away from being relevant was as smart as signing Loui Eriksson.
Sorry Makita, Benning is an idiot. |

Heard it all before . Not convincing me. Winning face offs and keeping the puck out of our net has different value to the two of us.
Much like I didn't think the Sedins were worth the 7 mil they were being paid , many players walked away saying they learnt a lot from them.
I do know we win more with Sutter and Beagle in the line up than without.
Beagle is 3 mil not 4 mil |

I get all the Benning is an idiot references from fans that perceive they are more knowledgeable about the industry, player negotiating, talent structure etc, I’m not one of those fans.
I think with minimal injuries (hopefully no key players injured) this team will be pushing for a wild card spot next year. Year after they will make the playoffs, mini can document this fans prediction to ridicule me if he wants.
I also know I’m setting myself up to be flamed, so there it is, flame away. - Makita
My own personal theory of how a rebuild should go. I think the Canucks will have enough to get into the playoffs next season. Barring the team doesn't have the same injury problems they have been having.
Probably not going to have a massive roster change over anymore. Adds will hopefully come from within now. Brisebois, Sautner, Gaudette, MacEwen all got a taste of what they need to take the next step. Just adding those small pieces that can hopefully be steadier than players like Pouliot or in the past the Magma's and Chaput's types.
6 more wins and Van would have been in a playoff spot.
Demko in 9 games had more wins than Nilsson, Bachman, MD had in their 14 games.
Canucks need more than 7 players to play 70 or more games. |

JV just isn't that smart or skilled of a player. If a player is below average in both of those areas then I feel pretty confident in saying that he's never going to be a core player. He can be a solid role player on a good team though.
He's fast, strong, decent sized and has a hard shot, that's about where it ends for his true strengths by NHL standards.
I remember when Canuck fans got triggered when Ferraro said that he think JV would be a Hansen caliber player(not the same style, but similar value), that seems like a spot on take. - Nucker101
It's Ferraro, I wrote down a quote of his last season before the year started saying Vancouver was in for a horrible season with no shining light in visible sight or something like that. Van hasn't built a team the way Toronto did. Of course he's going to say stupid things about the Canucks. |

Ray Ferraro is one of the most intelligent voices out there, he has no horse in the race, he doesn’t care if Vancouver does good or bad, it’s just his opinion.
Which fell in line, at the time before the season started, with 80% of the opinions around. Between Pettersson’s season, Horvat’s step forward and Markstrom suddenly having a breakout year at 29 years old that carried the team to a better finish. |

I don't know. I don't know how the season will go for other teams. I just see as is right now with add ons or too drastic a change that Vancouver will get to 96 points. Which would have put them in a playoff spot this season. Next year it may not. As of right now though it would have. |

Pettersson didn't carry this team all by his lonesome. If one player could do that then Mcjesus would have made the playoffs every season.
Let's face it, if he fell in line with everyone else, of course he's going to say the Canucks suck. I don't think i've ever heard a "respected" hockey person give Jim Benning a vote of confidence. |

Just my opinion but there’s slim to no chance the Canucks make the playoffs next year. They’d have to sign Erik Karlsson and trade for W. Nylander or another 60+ point winger to have a chance. I don’t see that happening. |

The biggest issue to me for canucks fans wanting to see playoffs is I don’t see a current playoff team that I would pick below the canucks ...leading up to the playoffs there were many in here who picked Colorado, Dallas, even the blues as teams who weren’t as good as they were playing.
Most likely there will be a team that misses from this year as it always seems to happen

Sort of funny that this started with Makita saying he doesn't know better than NHL GM's and Jim Benning has said he thought they could have been a playoff team without the injuries.
Now the team is adding younger, better, faster, more skilled players that are growing every year.
Here we are saying the team isn't going to make the playoffs. |

I’ll agree to disagree, Pettersson did make a huge difference in their eight point increase in point totals.
When the Oilers got decent goaltending and their defence was healthier McDavid got that team to 100 points and the playoffs. Similarly he couldn’t do it all by himself but he was a huge reason for their uptick two years ago. |

I think they are moving in the right direction ....but with the central looking like it has a strong 5 the canucks would have to finish top 3 in the pacific
come July 5th after the draft and the beginning of free agency we will have a better look at all the teams for next year |

Ana 101 LA 98 to 80 and 71.
Easy to say teams will stay like Dallas and get 92 then 93 points but it always isn't the case. That's why I said 96 points and make the playoffs |

The way this team is currently constructed, if somehow they flukes off, and made the playoffs, they would get annihilated.
This team sorely needs some top 6 players with some bite. |
