I'd say it's entirely possible to believe the that the team is in better shape now but also believe that Benning hasn't done a good enough job.

To expand on that:

Just by default of being a bad team for the past 5 years, the team should have better young talent than it had back in May of 2014, regardless of who was running things, it would be extremely difficult not to have a better group of young talent after finishing near the bottom so many times in a short span.

Thats a far cry different than he's been awful and should be fired.

I think that he can be better and as a whole, I think his body of work has definitely been improving..........

That’s fair, but I believe your opinion to be closed minded, as chompsey pointed out he had zero to work with and has slowly put together a better product than he was given.

But after reading this negativity every day for a few years, I find it’s like politics, the negative nellies are all loud, boisterous, made up scenarios, skewed untrue narratives until someone comes along that is open minded and points at the positives, the nellies get angry or walk away.

there's a lot of irony here.

I think he's cool with his low pressure job on tv. I listened to his podcast for the first time before the TDL just to hopefully hear some interesting rumours. He mentioned on the podcast that during his off-air time, he's more into talking about wine and music and that this would be one of his rare podcasts that would be 100% hockey talk.

Nice insight thx

I think "not doing a good enough job" is basically a nice way of saying "I'd like to take a chance on someone else and hope for better".

I think the guy is a draft scout in over his head as a President and/or GM of a NHL team.

Just my opinion of course, if you and Makita like him as the GM, that's fine too.

Oh I get it, he can have frustrations but not express them because it looks hypocritical or negative?

Mak chimes in often how often ppl like to point fingers or drone on about the negatives. Some ppl are just that way & I side with Mak it helps nothing to repeatedly blame or be negative. Nothing is gained & better to look ahead & deal with the present & the future than dwell on what cannot be changed. Pick up our socks & forge ahead.

I wouldn't have an issue with someone else being President. I think that hes starting to get the feel of being GM. I don't think that hes over his head tho. I mean, its easy to criticize when its right in your face but the grass is not always greener.....

i respect his opinions. but to phrase any and all anti-benning talk the way he did was ironic.

JB doesn’t have nearly enough of a support team. Taking orders directly from FA is a direct example of this.

The lack of Pres is astounding.
Nothing stops the Canucks from spending on the front office which is more than 1 hire from being complete

what responsibilities would you want the new pres to have? would that mean taking away responsibility from benning?

would you want a new pres to commit to benning before taking the job or leave it up to him to decide after the next season?

to me, unless FA makes a decision on JB, hiring a new pres just muddies the waters. with a new pres, it would make JB a lame duck.

would this affect his ability to make deals (especially at the deadline)?

a lot to think about when thinking about getting a new pres (especially one with a big name.)

Given our Pro scouts come up short to say the least our QMJHL & OHL & WHL are not terribly impressive. I’ll give our US & Euro scouts a 👍. Drafting USHL/USNDP & Euros allows JB to slide ELC’s or delay them while playing against either Men or older kids helping them develop which he done well at. Utica has suffered for that.

didn't Gillis and co. get the team to 1 game away from a Stanley Cup under the same owner though?

1st duty of a new Pres is to familiarize & assess the the organization top down.

The GM & Coach are of the least concern. A voice in the NHL board room is paramount. A strong & respected personality is needed. Autonomous of FA’s meddling being empowered to operate without any hands tied. Speaks for the team in pressers & JB only when it’s about the roster or prospects. I pick Francis for these reasons.

Didn't Gillis get fired for wanting to do something different than FA?
