I heard a lot of speculation today on SN650 about Subban . Of course they also mentioned moving Tanev if you do it.

I think they are starting to get more group input and not one person calling the shots on everything. Benning does have the final say of course.

I do agree with Vintsy , Canucks need a better assistant GM . I do like training and promoting within the ranks though.

I'd say it's entirely possible to believe the that the team is in better shape now but also believe that Benning hasn't done a good enough job.


To expand on that:

Just by default of being a bad team for the past 5 years, the team should have better young talent than it had back in May of 2014, regardless of who was running things, it would be extremely difficult not to have a better group of young talent after finishing near the bottom so many times in a short span.

I think, technically, this is incorrect. As I already pointed out, Benning was handed a playoff team, and once he got his mitts on it they haven’t been able to achieve that yet. Yes, the team was imploding and any GM would likely find themselves in that position, but things aren’t “better” yet. Promising? Absolutely.

6 million for 6 years for Brock Nelson.

That's quite a bit for a player that averages normally around 40 points a season with a single break out year into 50 points.

Crazy enough that is pretty much the same cap percentage as Mikael Backlunds 5.35 contract as last season.

I don't look at Oilers as disappointing . I would gladly switch for their history. I think they are one of the luckiest NHL franchises in history TBH

It was a playoff team, it isn’t now, so technically speaking it isn’t better off now than it was then. There is much more promise for the future yes, but that’s not what I was pointing out.

Thinking that you will never have peaks and valleys as a NHL franchise is unrealistic. Every team has missed the playoffs a few times.
