Well that’s a pretty closed minded approach for accepting other cultures.

I get all the Benning is an idiot references from fans that perceive they are more knowledgeable about the industry, player negotiating, talent structure etc, I’m not one of those fans.

I think with minimal injuries (hopefully no key players injured) this team will be pushing for a wild card spot next year. Year after they will make the playoffs, mini can document this fans prediction to ridicule me if he wants.

I also know I’m setting myself up to be flamed, so there it is, flame away.

I think they are further away than that, but as idiotic as Benning is/had been, he has managed to draft some pretty impressive players, who will anchor the team for years to come. Not a fan of his Veteran additions, or guys like Pearson, who he keeps name checking as having chemistry with Bo. From watching these playoffs, I think they are still three years away from truly competing, which means that players being selected this year, and possibly next will be crucial for that transition.

You know the old saying, when Benning gives you lemons you get to watch lemons play hockey.

I agree he has drafted some crucial players that I surprised even made it to him, but I don’t agree with him being labeled an idiot.

I understand fans wanting to place Pearson with Bo, mainly because there hasn’t been chemistry with anyone other, and Pearson did gel and preform with Bo in a shortened stretch.

I am a fan of Beagle, Roussel, not so much of Schaller, but Benning hasn’t had an issue trying something, doesn’t work move on. And both Beagle and Roussel are the types of players built for the playoffs.

My playoff concerns are Pettersson and Hughes, can they be like P. Kane and survive cheap shots by the Kadri’s, Doughty, even Marchand.

I don’t know who you’re referring to with regard to dropping to Benning, Pettersson and Quinn Hughes were both universally ranked where they were taken.

Boeser too for that matter. There’s a certain amount of luck involved. Pettersson falls directly into that category. If the other teams knew how well his game would transfer to the NHL he’d have went first overall.

That said, finishing near the bottom of the league allows you to get access to some great kids, most teams take advantage of that, our management included. There’s always some misses with it not being an exact science. The key is to limit those misses.

Virtanen, Boeser, Juolevi, Pettersson, Hughes, two misses out of five is acceptable, but just barely.

Yeah, I just don’t think any of those guys will be around when they finally start to be a playoff team again, and I don’t believe that their “leadership” is actually having an effect on the progression of the young players. Sure, they (the youts) say all the right things about what great role models they are etc., but what are they supposed to say? You have been critical of Green this past year about the team being prepared, and I believe that a lot of that failure rests at the fleet of these veterans who are supposed to be showing the way.

OJ hasn’t been a miss as of yet. Too early to make that call. JV is nearing his with the opportunity he has had but time to get it in high gear.

How can you measure the vets effect on the yutes? Many were injured for long stretches.

JV just isn't that smart or skilled of a player. If a player is below average in both of those areas then I feel pretty confident in saying that he's never going to be a core player. He can be a solid role player on a good team though.

He's fast, strong, decent sized and has a hard shot, that's about where it ends for his true strengths by NHL standards.

I remember when Canuck fans got triggered when Ferraro said that he think JV would be a Hansen caliber player(not the same style, but similar value), that seems like a spot on take.

Agree, Juolevi may yet be a good second pairing guy or a good PP guy, but, the clock is ticking.

My guess:

Skilled PP + 5v5 offensive specialist who isn’t good defensively and is soft as butter

Where do you rank him on the injury chart? Salo being high and Hank being low.

Beagle Roussel and Schaller all came at the request of the coach also.

Benning tried to fill gaps. He has replaced the bottom forwards with players that have had success with other teams (cheap signings) and is building the core with drafting mostly.
