That question was for giggles, but yes dont understand this Jimmy Hayes to the Hawks talk. He refused to sign as a rookie. Now he wants to play here??

Lankinen 932 save pct, 1.57 GAA with 2 shutouts and leading the Finns to gold medal game. Does he give Delia a run for back up spot?

Also, trade Boquist and draft Byram. Win now!

Just because we take Byram at 3 doesn’t mean he will make the hawks any faster than Boqvist

Boqvist starts in Rockford and gets called up during the season. Byram goes back for one more season in the WHL and then makes the Hawks out of camp in 2020/21.

Crazy and improbable trades but bored so here it is:
Gust 4th and hayden to pitt for matta and 21st overall pick in 2019 pitt gets cap relief matta signed 3 more at 4 million cost controlled and get another 1st in which can keep or trade.
AA to Montreal for 2nd 2019 and 2021 3rd then take those picks and trade them to Vegas for miller or McNabb and eakin and a 5th and reeves. Hawks 3rd line center who has some offensive upside and good pk McNabb or miller along with matta makes the defense better in theory. Sign tanev and vet backup goalie (LENER) who could succeed crow after this upcoming season. Hawks add pk help grit phyiscal players and depth.

So
Saad toews kane
Dcat strome perilini
Kublick eakin Kauhn
Caggulia kampf tanev
Reeves
Keith joki
Matta miller/ McNabb
Koko/ dahlstrom Seabrook
Crow
Lener or ward
Sikrua and forsling in Rockford but first callups in case of injuries. Or one or both are traded who knows but i would not trade sikrua could end up being a smaller version of frolik. Draft Cozens he spends one more year in juniors or goes to Rockford then next season replaces eakin. Thoughts opinions welcomed

I really don't get the attraction some Hawks fans have with Kevin Hayes. Aside from what some may consider a character flaw with his spurning the Hawks after 4 years where he was supposedly going to sign with the Hawk - the real reason I don't want Stan to acquire Hayes is because he's not THAT good. He's scored over 20 goals only once and scored over 50 points only once which was last season when he scores 42 points with NYR and another 12 after being traded to Winnipeg. That's 54 points in 71 games combined between the two teams. Strome scored 51 points in 58 games with the Hawks. He made $2.6M and I'd be surprised if he doesn't get some team to give him $5M+ - I'd rather keep Anisimov.

Good analysis on Hayes hence why I’d sign him only if he’s willing to play 3C and earn requisite salary for that role. He puts up good 3rd line stats and could help form a dominant line with the right mates.

However, many teams will covet and pay for him as a top 6. If that’s the case, let them over pay and the Hawks can search elsewhere to bolster the 3rd line instead.

Chances of the Hawks signing Hayes is slim to none anyway since I think the latter scenario is the most realistic one.

Is he a better skater then AA?
- z1990z

I don’t know but I do know he’s a turnover machine! I’d pass.

I have read many that feel he is ready to make an NHL team now. Button and Pronman both have said he is most NHL ready D prospect if Hawks take him. I keep hearing that Boquist is far from ready due to his defense. We already have a Gus.

Friedman linking Hayes to the Hawks. That’s yet another source connecting the dots between the two.

I think there’s more to it than people think, for better or worse.

- TommyHawk

Exactly 19 goals and 36 assists in back to back seasons. There is a place for him on the Hawks as 3C or RW with Toews and Saad at the right price for the right term.

Saad -Toews - Hayes
ADB - Strome - Kane
Sikura - AA - Kahun
Caggiula - Kampf - Tanev

Saad - Toews - Kahun
ADB - Strome - Kane
Wedin - Hayes - Sikura
Caggiula - Kampf - Tanev

Either might work.

Going along with your proposed lines, I'd swap out Wedin for Kubalik and see Kahun and Sikura being interchangable.

Saad - Toews - Sikura
DeBrincat - Strome - Kane
Kahun - Hayes - Kubalik
Caggiula - Kampf - Tanev

Does that strengthen the bottom 6? I see the 4th line as upgraded whether adding Tanev or someone of his caliber.

If Hayes can play solid defense and continue contributing in the 45-55 point range and if Kubalik's performance at the World Championships is any indication of what his play could be in the NHL, then that 3rd line could be a handful for other teams.

IIRC, Kubalik was playing bottom 6 for the Czech team and still paced with Kane in points. Kubalik showed a knack for finding open space and getting open (albeit on the larger international ice).

The Hawks continue to be rumored as interested in Gardiner. Do the Hawks plan to deal Gustafson and see Gardiner as his replacement? Just stick with Gustafsson at that point and find affordable veteran D elsewhere.

Put me down for a no on JG as well. I'm fine with Gus for another season or a ridiculous overpay by another team, if someone is dying to have him. Either way, I'm fine.

I'd gladly keep Gus for $4M less a year instead of JG.

I’m still hoping Stan takes a more strategic approach to free agency and fills current voids rather than going for the biggest names. The Hawks have plenty of top 6 talent and Gus provides offense on D. The likes of Stralman, Nemeth or Edler would work on D and Tanev at forward.

Great point. I forgot about Kubalik. I like your thinking. They may be interchangeable, but is Kubalik LW and Kahun RW/C? Some sites have Kubalik listed as LW and Kahun listed as RW/C.

Hard pass on Gardiner. He's not what the Hawks need and has a history of back issues.

Where did you see this rumour?

I've only seen the rumors in Eklund's posts. At least twice. No where else, at least not yet.

I like that approach. Those options on D are what I would explore in addition to guys like Benn or Polak. Chiarot, too, but my guess is the Hawks are priced out of his services.

Gardiner is similar to Gustafsson: offensively skilled but not very good in his own end. If it's between having one or the other, stick with Gustafsson. And makes zero sense to have both on the roster. Gardiner would just take away a spot for X amount of years from one of the young D like Boqvist.
