Vantels response: Markstrom provides reliability .

Marwoods response: The only reason Canucks didn't finish dead last is because of Markstrom and Petey

You're both right on this IMO. It's just that that is what selling high is all about.

Who said to go with an unproven rookie goalie? Obviously we sell high & buy low on a stop gap vet to share the load. This is about maximizing leverage, a looming expansion draft, & the likelihood of a repeat performance from Markstrom... This isn’t fantasyland BS - it’s legit strategic management.

Traded Lack before his value crashed, signed Miller short term. It's been done by JB before so maybe again....

I think a first round pick for Marky is a reach

One impressive season in a row.

2nd is reasonable.

A high second would most likely be a rebuild team . Unless they have someones pick
- VANTEL

Sometimes rebuilding teams need to fill the seats. Sometimes teams just have inept management.

Doesn't mean I want to keep him. Nothing wrong with saying that Markstrom and Pettersson were the difference between bottom 3 finish and finishing 10th worse.

I doubt very much that Markstrom is in the long term picture, the focus is now on Demko & DiPietro. Trade Markstrom while he has a semblance of value.

Keep trying.

Could lose his value if the old Marky shows up.

Could also increase trade value if he and the team play better.

It doesn't matter where he's traded, as long as value is maximized. Do you think he's going to be better this year? If so, he's going to cost a lot of (frank)ing money which will also work against him. Having good goaltending could be the difference between making the playoffs, having home ice, winning a round or two.

I don't want to hold onto Markstrom just to move up 3 spots, I'd rather fall 3 spots and go with youth and a solid vet for a season or two.

I think with Pouliot Biega Hutton gone and most in here will include Gudrandson , plus the puck possession of Hughes along with better forwards , and another year with Ian Clark , I like the chances he improves

I would hope that a pro scout from any organization would see that he has been somewhat of a victim of poor defensive play, especially last season.

Don't forget, he was usually often letting in a goal within the first 5 minutes of a game prior to this past season and was often the victim of a softie. He played great last season and solid for the most part the year before.

I'm pretty sure he has a few peak seasons in him yet, which is why a team with cup aspirations would acquire him. How are the AVs doing for goaltending? Maybe they want insurance to split the load with Grubauer.

Not really because you are expecting some other team to pull a stupid move and trade for Markstrom.

Maybe if you help me out with what team is that dumb and who they are sending back I might get a better picture.

- VANTEL

Realistically, I could see him dealt at the deadline if we are stuck in the same situation as this last season and Demko shows he is capable. There is always 1 or 2 starters out with long term injuries as the season progresses.

Give Demko 30-35 games this year . Trade Markstrom at TDL . Hopefully Kielly is good enough to bring up next year and Demko takes the reins

Do you have a prospect or two in mind at the 40 range that you'd really like to see join the organization?

Also, what do you do at the deadline if your team is 3 points out?

In the summer there are 20 UFA goalies available. At TDL maybe 3 ?

I agree

Honestly I don't care about the playoffs . I know it doesn't seem that way but I don't . I would keep on sticking with the plan. I would welcome the playoffs but I would not be buyers at TDL.

I like Vlasic (first choice) Lassi I like , Beecher is a LW with size that I also like.

I love the playoffs, and I want my team to make the playoffs every year. I also want them to be able to challenge for the Cup in cycles, maybe even get lucky now and then.

I just think that in order for things like that to happen, I need to sell high and buy low at every opportunity.

His value may never be higher than it is right now. I'd call up Carolina or Columbus who have some great d prospects and need a goalie

I think if Canucks had a proven back up and a goalie waiting to make it in the NHL sure , but Demk has played 10 games . I can't see it at all this summer . Maybe at TDL
