The beach is one of the only things making it a difficult decision for me to leave. But as far as the snow in April/May, I think that recent snowstorm was more of freak thing than the norm. When I was there in April it was in the low-70's and beautiful almost every day.

Lots of nice lakes in a lot of states too. It's not the beach but it still checks some boxes.

Plus you don't get destroyed by the next Sandy.

People are definitely finding out the truth about it. It's a great place for tech jobs if that's what you do.

I remember I went hiking on Memorial Day weekend one year when I lived there, and it was about 70 in Lakewood/Denver. I only went about an hour in to the mountains, and there was 4 inches of snow on the ground and I'm wearing shorts. What a tool!

I know their weather can be a bit wild. I thought I heard that their snowiest months are the spring. Always blows my mind how big distances are out west. I thought when he had said that he was moving to Denver, that he'd be close to Vegas. Nope 1k miles away.

I agree with you but there is something behind that statement/belief. I know it is often difficult for some that think relocating will fix them being marginally successful/unsuccessful on LI. You still need to be skilled in some way to live a nice life anywhere. I know so many people that move away thinking it is some kind of magical cure-all and then they try to come back because they are living the same or worse but with no friends/family.

When I travel now I too am amazed at how nice other places are and how far your money can go in some ways. But the thing is you still need a good paying job relative to where you want to live. You might not live much better in South Carolina (popular destination for LI idiots) if you go down there and work an entry level job.

Way too many people I know or have spoken to seem to get this. My wife's brother (I refuse to call him a brother in law ) has moved away like 4 times thinking it's finally gonna work. He'll be back at some point.

- JRR1285

Yeah of course, but your money also definitely goes a lot further in some other places. You can probably live a better life working at McDonalds in Charlotte, NC than you can on LI. Not that either is desirable, but even with the hilarious minimum wage increases around here I still think the cost of living is just too high.

I haven't done a ton of research yet but, from what I gather from talking to friends that live out there and what I've found on my own, it's a similar cost of living to LI (willing to bet property taxes don't feel like unlubed anal though [yes, mdw...I do know from experience]) but it's just such a better quality of life in nearly every aspect. I usually hate cities but I loved the actual city of Denver. Clean, relatively quiet, not hard to drive around, and tons of new places to eat/drink/etc...

Crime rate in Denver and applicable suburbs is virtually zero in every neighborhood we looked at. Healthcare industry does well there too, which helps because my GF is a nurse with a lot of oncology experience.

We'll see, leaving here may never actually come to fruition...but it's definitely on the table.

Yeah I was told at some point during my trip that they can have some pretty wacky weather. It was a little unsettling seeing some signs in the airport advising where to go in the event of a tornado

True, but people who work at McDonald's aren't gonna own anything anywhere.

The minimum wage thing is certainly laughable. It will never be a livable wage for anyone not living at home, nor should it be in my opinion. The poopty thing is that even with a job two to three times above minimum wage that Long Island is simply pricing itself out of reach for most future generations. If I didn't get a new job shortly after my daughter was born I don't know where I would be at. Probably working a second job for sure.

What I find worrisome is leaving a secure well paying job for an unknown job in a place I don't know. We've never used anyone as a support network but it's still scary to pickup and leave.

I'm putting Denver high on my list to travel to now. I want to see what it's all about.

I repeat, go to Aurora.

But seriously, stuff is cheaper there. Food items, and stuff like that is definitely cheaper. Property taxes are much cheaper too.

Yeah it's scary for sure. A big part of the hesitancy to leave is that when we have kids it'll be real hard to not just have my parents/family/etc... as people to lean on if we're in a pinch.

It was a fun city for sure and there's plenty of non-city things to do as well. We were only there for a few days so I didn't get to see a ton, but I'm real glad we went.

Kidding, but that is a good point. We actually do have family babysitting on two days a week. But I bet child care would be cheaper elsewhere. Childcare here for a kid can be close to 1k if you need to do full time.
