I still don't get why the Islander fans booed him so severely. I could of understood a 50/50 reaction but that wasn't fair how he was treated. - B2B76
I don't have another long-winded debate about this in me after the last 11 months. It doesn't bother me that you have that opinion but I don't agree.
As many people have pointed out, he didn't owe the Islander fans anything but by the same token no Islander fan owes him jack poop. We paid his salary going to games and buying merchandise and if 13,000 people want to vocally lay into him I don't see the big deal.
I didn't approve of the two idiots that threw things at him during warm-ups and I'm neutral on the dopes burning his jersey and running it over in the parking lot. They're clearly white trash idiots but it's not like they were hurting anyone either.
Ultimately, he went about leaving in the most gutless way possible and a fanbase that's endured decades of being poop and pissed on by just about everyone isn't going to just wipe their chin and say thank you. |

Well you answered that and not too long winded. I just feel the guy bled for you for 9 years and was all class. Every single pending UFA has to say the "right" things, that's told to them by the agent, he didn't do anything no other guy in his position would have done. |

Iām saying youāll have the same problem if you trade for Dman lol.
You can never be āstuckā with to many centers. Thatās crazy you think like that. You can never have enough of anything really. And we really have no idea yet whoās going or staying, at any position. Iām just not comfy at center yet, and Iām more comfortable on D. Future wise for all positions - Slimtj100

I think requesting to not be traded and not being able to commit to a "yes/no/trade me" answer is not exactly common practice among UFA's. He didn't even have to be absolute, that's what galls me. He could have said "listen, I'm really struggling to make a decision now. Get what you can for me at the deadline but you're really still in serious consideration" in February and the Islanders could've at least recouped something for him at the deadline.
Instead, he strung them along and they got nothing. I don't respect that at all. They bent over backwards to accommodate his every request and just got a big (frank) you in return, even if it wasn't an intentional one. |

I absolutely understand why Isles fans would be upset. As a Rangers fan I loved it but could you imagine if Hank was 27 and pulled the same poop? He had no intention of signing with the Isles, tell them that before the deadline so they can trade you and get something in return. |

I don't think he had "no intention of signing with them", I believe that he was genuinely torn. But if that was the case he should've let them move him and if he decided he wanted to stay, nothing would've prevented him from signing there again in July. |

Tavares' exit was the greatest in the tri-state area since Kovalchuk left the Devils in the lurch. Very easy to understand the fans reaction... |

I fkin love JD! He so passionate about this organization, theyāre in good handsš¤
He made it a point a couple times to say, teams canāt make dumb decisions in FA and players available in the summers have to fit monetarily and have to fit at the right time for the team.
So thatās tell me -
Panarin, yes
EK, no
And not sure if he meant to, but he kind slipped and said āKakkoā as if he was on the team already. Like us!

Yes, a good puck moving defenseman to run the PP. Whoās the shutdown guy? We have 1 defensive prospect on the right side in Nils. Who else? Crowley? At center we also have Morgan Barron who had a great season. Thatās 4 young possible centers that would be blocked by trading for a 2nd line center. |

I wanted Dobson last year but wasnāt upset with Kravtsov. I think Seider is the way to go this year but he might not be there at 20. |

I think Iād rather draft the RHD then trade for it, is my thing. We both see the need of each, but not how we obtain them.
You also have a lot of money tied up in 3 guys there already, so they are most likely playing for 2 more years. Maybe not Smith. Trading Shatty (canāt be easy to do) would need to be a priority if youāre trading for one imo. 2 or 3 spots blocked already. I forgot Skjei, thatās more money. That would be 4 guys over 5 mill, thatās insane |

Just saw a post today from a Shark fan. He thinks that if/when EK leaves San Jose, then that would be a good landing spot for Shatty. Sounds logical... |

I think we could find a trade partner for Shattenkirk if we retained 2 million. Smith we could put on the 4th line until heās out of here, Staal is the one I think weāre stuck with. If we draft Seider Iām ok with not trading for or signing a RHD. If we donāt though Iāll want Trouba. |

He had a bunch of interest when he was asking 7+ a year. If we retained 2-2.5 I could see him having interest from teams. At 4-4.5 heās not bad for a team looking for an offensive minded dman. The Vancouver blog weāre saying theyād love him a few weeks back but I doubt he would put them on his list. |
|
|
|
āHis limited no-trade clause allows him to pick 10 teams to add to a no-trade list. Shattenkirk would need to give his permission to be traded to these teams.ā
So thereās 20 teams we could trade him to, letās get it done. Apparently we offered to retain 50% of his contract at the deadline but couldnāt make a deal. Maybe weād be willing to accept less now that we have Fox. |
