Undo the trades and put them on this roster. They make the playoffs.

Here we go - Day 1,098,002 in a row of:

GET RID OF WHO IS HERE BUT BRING BACK EVERYONE WHO LEFT...........................

Kane was a part of the whole in San Jose - team success but not because of him;
ROR is apart of the whole in St. Louis- team success but not because of him;
Lehner is part of the whole for NYI- team success but not because of him;

Kane - off ice issues dogging him in Buffalo - self-inflicted as reported
ROR - off ice issues dogged him in Buffalo
Lehner - off ice issues were dogging him in Buffalo

The trades and letting their goalie walk allowed these three to be part of teams where their off-ice issues were put in the rear view mirror and they could contribute.

Good for them.

Now - who will the Sabres draft? Who will be on the big club? Are there any possible FAs (Restricted or otherwise) that would sign here?

Can you provide the Sabres position in the standings with those 3 players?
- washedup20

You don't think San Jose is pumped that they paid Kane $50m and he scored 2g in 20 playoff games?

Side note- I'm actually shocked about that part. I never wanted the Sabres to give him 7x7, but I figured he would be a beast in the playoffs for them

I agree with all of this. I also believe that each of those three was "a part of the whole" while they were here in the terrible years they were.

It just feels like some posters here - not the quoted poster, but some - feel like Kane, ROR, and Lehner bear individual responsibility for the failures of the Sabres during their tenures, but deserve no credit for the success of their new teams.

It wasn’t an issue this year, by year 3 it will be comparable to Okposo IMO

Talented players, each relies on environment. With their current teams they can fill in a role, while in Buffalo they were brought in to create the environment. This was a management failure that bled all the way down to the individual players.

Did he really only score 2 goals??? Yikes. I knew he did like 35 during the season.

I know that Hertl and Pavelski missed a lot of games for them in the playoffs though. I'm not sure if he had Thornton or Couture. According to DailyFaceoff he was 2LW so he would have had Thornton with Hertl out.

Unless they are playing the Rangers, there is never a good reason to root for the Bruins.

I agree this is the best explanation I have read - but I still don't think it justifies laying the blame for the failures at the feet of these individuals.

There were other individuals who have gone blameless, and I believe there is only so much a player can do to influence other players. That influence does NOT include making plugs successful, and we had WAY too many plugs. (I don't need to list them here again, but Zac Dalpe is a starting point.)

ANYWAY - its a worn out topic and I'll let it go.

ROR going to STL where they def have some very savvy and aged vets I get....

But how does this apply to Lehner to NYI? We going to just say that Trotz alone at hte helm is enough? Are we putting that on Boychuk, Eberle, Filppula, Ladd, and like Sbisa to be these savvy lockerroom guys?

I just think Lehner needed a fresh start where his athletic ability could shine again and not be diluted from his off ice struggles. I've never been happier for an athlete.

Kane was aloof, Lehner was drunk, Gio couldn't captain a mediocre team, ROR played too many hard minutes, Murray couldn't build a d corps, Reinhart and Eichel hadn't peaked yet, Ennis got hit in the head too many times, Foligno was inconsistent, 22 and 28 have always sucked, Bylsma's system sucked, Housley was in over his head and the farm system sucked so hard that Dan Catenacci was briefly on the team.

14-17 in a nut shell

Oh and Moulson and Okposo are useless

Be happy for Lehner, absolutely.

And him being sober had an obvious impact on his game and life.

But let's not discount the fact that Greiss had virtually identical numbers in almost the same amount of games played.

Also, maybe this group of players just "clicked". Right group, right coach, right time. All playing and buying into Trotz's system. It happens.

Hoping it happens with the Sabres.

Well after the c0ck tease that we had winning 10 games this year and being points leader of the NHL...

I'd say next year seems prime to have a bounce back campaign and then miss the playoffs by losing either the very last game or a few down the stretch where we needed points.

Seems par for the course.

Well,
1- he over came his off-ice issues
2 - he played in a very goalie-friendly system
He benefitted from both.
He also took aim at the Sabres and Buffalo in his article. Inferring the environment was/is toxic.

That's all I got.

Raiders signed OG Richie Incognito to a one-year contract.
It is a bit of a surprise Incognito is getting another shot. The former Pro-Bowler spent 2018 out of the league in part because of multiple off-field altercations and a brief stint in a mental health facility after he retired, un-retired, and was cut by the Bills. Incognito is reportedly "feeling well in all aspects," however, and was a solid player for the Bills back in 2017. He is a good flier for a team which could use a starter at left guard.

I think you misunderstood that part of his article. He said that being in that system after his struggles would have been toxic. He said that it could have caused him to succumb to his alcohol and depression again by being in the same environment.

He actually outright said in that article that the organization was one of the strong points and thanked them for pulling him from the game and putting him in rehab. He thanked them for putting his health above finishing the season. He even said that they were completely on board and understanding when they had their face to face and he openly stated that a fresh start elsewhere would be best for him. The organization was not required to let that happen and did what was best for him. He VERY MUCH appreciated that.

BPA.

This will ruffle some feathers I would imagine ...
Don't be too surprised if the
"The Buffalo Sabres select, with the 7th pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, Defenseman from the Vacouver Giants, Bowen Byram"

If that kid is available, picking a potential #1 D man who is solid at both ends of the ice is never a bad thing.

Watch this place implode!

ROR was a good player for Buffalo

Kane was a mediocre player for Buffalo

Lehner was a disaster personally and for a majority of the time here

O’Reilly was acquired to be the player he was this year in St. Louis.

He wasn’t that player here, and he’s slowly becoming Buffalo O’Reilly for them now.

They absolutely deserve some of the blame. But they weren’t “the problem”

I read an article that the Dmen available to us at #7 would be NHL ready far sooner than any forward selected at #7.

I wonder if that will play a role.
